Major increase in # of orders being flagged as potential fraudulent

We used to have like < 10% of orders being flagged as medium or high fraudulent risk by Shopify.

Then after the new year, that ratio has gone up to like 30%.

Our customer segments haven’t changed.

Has anyone seen any trend?

Is Shopify being more strick now?

Hi @ptoxa ,

Looking at our data, we are seeing a higher trend of orders being flagged by Shopify either as medium or high risk.

It seems that Shopify or (Stripe) might have changed their fraud logic on how orders are flagged.

As always, it is always best to be extra cautious around these orders. If you know in fact the flagged orders are good customers, I recommend you use customer tags so that the next time, you can just process the order without needing any 2nd thoughts. Likewise, you can do the same for bad customers.

We are having the same problem. Those fraudulent orders are reported as low-risk by Shopify because the CC billing and shipping addresses are always matching. Items ordered are not more than $150 always. They are coming from Shareasale new and suspicious affiliates, we deleted them. There is no financial gain from the CC use however we believe they are collectiing Shareasale commissions and run away.
