A customer runs a store that only ships within germany and to netherlands.
Customers from Austria and Switzerland should be allowed to buy and checkout as long as they use a german delivery adress. But since shopify automatically identifies the customers country by their ip it shows them all products as not available. How do i fix this?
hey @cha241 you can try these steps
in Shopify Admin → Setting -->Shipping and delivery —>make sure only Germany and Netherlands are listed on shipping zone
Go to setting —>markets —> restrict active market to only DE & NL
Alternatively install app like GEO location by Shopify app store and configure it to show a suggestion banner instead of hard blocking so Austrian / Swiss customer can dismiss it and enter a German address manually
these options are help you to solved your issues hope you like it and also don’t forget to like and mark as solution on it
Add Austria and Switzerland to the same Market as Germany/Netherlands in your Shopify settings (Settings > Markets), but keep the shipping zones restricted to only DE and NL addresses. That way the catalog stays visible to AT/CH visitors, and they’ll only hit a wall at checkout if they try to enter an Austrian or Swiss shipping address.
Thank you! I found a way easier way I just removed the Austria and Switzerland from Markets in general and now it works and the products are shown in both countries, can be added to cart but only shipped to defined countries.
The easy part to miss is that catalog visibility and shipping eligibility don’t always feel connected when you’re testing it. A product can look fine on the storefront from AT/CH, but the real block only shows up once the customer reaches the shipping step with an address Shopify doesn’t allow.
Hello @cha241
This is typically because the catalog visibility in Shopify Markets is based on the visitor’s detected market. As a work around, I add Austria and Switzerland to an active market so the products stay visible and then limit shipping rates to Germany and the Netherlands only.
Alternatively, you can do a geolocation selector and tell your customers to switch to the Germany market before they start browsing. In that case, potential customers from Austria or Switzerland can still see products and checkout if they have a valid German delivery address, but you cannot sell to Austria or Switzerland directly from that shop.
