Hello Shopify Community,
I am looking for advice on a specific challenge we’re facing with our Shopify store regarding metafields during product uploads. When we add a product to our store, we want to streamline the process so that only the relevant metafields for that product type are displayed for completion.
To illustrate, for a kettlebell, we should only see fields for “net weight” and “material.” Conversely, when uploading a trampoline mat, the fields should be limited to “diameter” and “number of springs.” Currently, our product upload page shows all possible metafields (200 in total), which is cumbersome as it requires manual selection of relevant fields for each product type. (Please excuse my toddler photo editing skills)
The desired outcome is a more efficient and user-friendly process for product uploads, where only the pertinent metafields are presented based on the specified product type – similar to how our previous webshop engine operated.
Any guidance on how to configure Shopify metafields to achieve this selective visibility would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time and assistance.
Hi Chris,
Thank you for your interest and response. I apologize if there was any confusion in my initial inquiry. To clarify, the issue we’re facing is not related to the frontend or customer-facing side of the website, which is indeed working well with our current setup using the Minimog theme. Our website is: www.s-sport.sk
Our challenge lies specifically within the admin backend during the product upload process. We want to simplify this process so that when we, or any team member, are adding new products, only the relevant metafields for each product type are presented for completion. This is to prevent the overwhelming display of all 200+ metafields we have, which is not efficient for our upload process.
Essentially, we’re looking for a way to conditionally show or hide metafields based on the product type in the Shopify admin product upload page. This would significantly streamline our backend operations and minimize the risk of human error when uploading new products.
I hope this provides the clarification you needed. If a solution involves backend adjustments or even coding within the Shopify admin, we’re open to suggestions on how to implement this.
Thank you for your assistance!
Best regards,
Mark
