Manual inventory change causes page to jump to top

Hi guys,

I frequently manually adjust inventory on the admin page. This latest update has changed it so that when you have scrolled down any amount on the list of products and make a change to that item’s quantity and hit save the page jumps to the top and puts the type cursor into the search box. it is so disrupting! I lose my position and have to scroll down and check where I was. Even if I just add the quantities to a cluster of products and start hitting the save button for each it sometimes just takes away the amount I entered on some of them. And once you hit save on the last one it jumps you back up to the top. Why would you implement this? The previous version worked perfectly fine as I could just enter and save while scrolling and it would just update as I go without any jumping. Please for the love of all that is good change this back to the way it was. it has no benefit whatsoever to anyone as it is now. Not all of us just use CSVs… Sometimes I have a hundred or so changes I need to make and the order is the same on my sheet as it is when I search that product line on Shopify and I am very quick with click, add and saving each one by one. but now I can’t anymore…

+1000! I just came here to say the same thing. It’s absolutely obnoxious and completely ruins the flow when you have to scroll back and figure out where you were. If you forget, things get missed. It’s small, but significantly interfering with workflow.

FYI @DianBroodryk I discovered a hack: as long as one item is changed but not saved, it won’t jump to the top. Only upon saving the last item does it jump to the top.

Hi there! Happy to see that I am not the only one that is disgusted with whatever the heck that new “feature” is…

So I haven’t tried just leaving one item unsaved at the top and then working down and saving the others as I go, but I have tried going down and entering each of them and only clicking all the saves when I am done but then it goes and removes some of my entries as if I never entered them. Sometimes those are below the screen as I scrolled back up to start saving them so you don’t even realize some are now removed. Don’t know if it does the same to you? It is extremely frustrating. I really hope they fix this “bug” as I simply cannot see the reason for this change.

Just tested it. it looks like on some products if you add an amount and leave the save button untouched and load the products you need to load it still jumps to the top but not all of them. So in essence it does help a little bit. So thank you for that, but this is still clearly some sort of bug that needs to be sorted out asap. I think many of us have enough issues to deal with on a daily basis and don’t need Shopify taking up any unnecessary thinking power and time…

Same problem, very annoying bug. Hope it will get fixed soon!

I know right! Here’s to hoping we are heard and not just seen in this instance. I chatted with the help desk and they said that they would escalate it… Holding thumbs.

I have the same issue. Very frustrating.

Even with the semi workaround of leaving 1 item unsaved the type cursor still jumps to the search bar and when you are too quick you type a number next to the search term and it throws it all away. This is just ridiculous…

Having the exact same issue with jumping. I have tried different browsers and cleared cache as @Shay has said to do in another threat but this hasn’t fixed it at all.

From debugging this in the dev tools i can see that clicking the “Save” button causes the focus to shift to an item at the top of the page causing it to scroll to the top. Also, if you have edited multiple items values but yet to hit save, when you do hit save on one item It also ends up applying a class and aria state to all other save buttons causing them to disappear without saving those items inventory changes.

@Shay this is a huge problem and while i’ve seen you tell people they need to talk to support to get them to log into our accounts, it’s clear this is a very widespread bug and everyone i know that runs a Shopify store is experiencing the same thing.

You need to file a bug report with your developers instead of requiring us to sit on a live chat with a rep that is going to run through some script and get us nowhere. You should be raising a ticket and making it high priority.

I’ve isolated the page jumping to only happening when you are either in a saved filter view within the inventory page or have performed a search within the “All” view. (this might be why you couldn’t recreate the bug) It doesn’t happen in the default “All” view without a search. After the “Save” button is hit, the focus is pushed to either the saved views button along the top, or the search bar input if it’s visible.

Steps to recreate the jumping -

  1. Go to products > inventory

  2. Click the search icon and perform a search (that returns many products)

  1. Scroll down so that the topmost bar of the website is our of view and you can only see products listed.

  2. Change either the on-hand or available number and hit the save button.

Result: The page will save that items value and then scroll you back to the top of the page.

Another method to recreate the jumping -

  1. Go to products > inventory

  2. Click the name of a saved filter view

  1. Scroll down so that the topmost bar of the website is out of view and you can only see products listed.

  2. Change either the on-hand or available number and hit the save button.

Result: The page will save that items value and then scroll you back to the top of the page.

Steps to recreate the save buttons disappearing

  1. Go to products > inventory

  2. Click either a saved view, or perform a search that returns many items.

  3. Change the available or on-hand amount of multiple products in the inventory list

  4. Click save on one item.

Result: Page will save that one item, hide all the other save buttons and scroll you back to the top. (only ever saving the inventory amount of the item who’s save button you hit)

@Shay it is such a shame to have seen you basically argue with people in this thread about this. I’m so disappointed in how yourself and Shopify have handled this newest roll out. It clearly didn’t go through QA/QC and has caused such a massive headache for your customers.

This takes such simple investigation to figure out what is going on and what the problem is and yet instead of testing you are just arguing and Shopify is not investigating.

Please forward on the above methods to recreate the bug to your devs. This needs to be fixed.

Thank you for taking the time to lay this all out so well. I have also chatted to support and got them to recreate the problems we are all being so badly frustrated by. But to no avail, it seems. Hopefully, someone here can get our frustrations across to the right people…
