Hi there!
We’re facing an issue with the Templates translations for the Markets Context.
Overview:
We have a primary German market with a default German language (+ we also have an English language).
Also, we’ve recently launched a new Spanish market with the Spanish language by default for this market.
For translation purposes, we’re now using Translate & Adapt native Shopify app.
How we manage the Spanish market templates/content:
Since the Spanish language is primary for the Spanish market - we have translated all the templates via the Customizer, so for each template in the theme files automatically were created context-specific template overwriting. Example attached:
-
- Customizer
-
- Code
Expected behavior:
So when we’re opening the template on the Spanish market - we’re expecting to see this exact wording, that we’ve established via the Customizer and which’s saved into the template overwriting for the Spain market.
What we see:
Unfortunately, when we open the Spanish market and localized Spanish content - we don’t see the wording we put into the customizer, but we see the translation of this exact setting FROM THE ORIGINAL(GERMAN) market and language(German) to Spanish.

How did we catch it?
We’ve opened the Translate & Adapt app, opened the German to Spanish language translations for the template and setting we need and just seen the translation that appears on the Spanish market & language, in front of the German original content. We went further and clicked the “Adapt to Market” tab, to see which value is shown on the Spanish market with the Spanish language, and guess what we found there? The same translation from the original (German) market, while in the customizer & theme templates JSON files - we have another value.
-
- German to Spanish translation
-
- Spanish market Spanish language
So here’s the question:
Why does it just ignore the overwriting from the Customizer/JSON template context, and just keep showing the TRANSLATED content from the Primary(German) market & language?
MB someone also facing a similar problem and tested other Apps with real Markets support (previously we’ve been using Transcy, but with them, we had even worse issues, so we migrated for now to Shopify’s native translation app.
Thanks in advance!
