Markets - products not available at checkout, empties your basket and diverts you to homepage

Hi team,

We’re at the end of a complex migration and our Shopify site looks great - we are using Shopify Markets to condense our 3 existing standalone sites into one Shopify Markets site which gives the appearance of 3 completely separate sites to the user.

The issue we have is when a user checks out with products only meant for one market and they are on the checkout page, all 3 markets are displayed on the country option:

This is not ideal, but something we can live with. If we could limit the selection on this dropdown to only the products we have available for the products in the basket this would be problem solved:

But the main problem is when the user is at checkout and they select an ‘other’ market which is not available for the products in the basket, this is what happens:

Note there is no ‘Go Back’ the ONLY option is to ‘Return to store’ which when clicked:

  1. Empties the user’s basket

  2. Diverts you back to the homepage

I note that if there are a mix of products and some are available and some are not for the other market selected, it will only remove that item, but for us, this will not happen due to the way we have our products setup, so the steps above 1. and 2. will always happen.

I feel this will create a really poor user experience - no users are going to start their shopping journey again after this happening and it will likely end up in people dropping off at the checkout stage.

Are there any workarounds for this issue?

Thanks!

Brian

Can you please provide store link to have a detail look at it

Thanks!

It’s actually closed as still not launched, but the behaviour described above is the same with any Shopify store which uses Shopify Markets…
