Am very new to shopify , just testing things with sample data , thetop level menu link not working adiads here for example , but the same link with same inputs working in bottom of hierarchy

I believe what you’re seeing is the default Dawn behavior – if the top level menu item has submenu, this menu item click only triggers the submenu display.
Simply add a duplicate item, like “All Adidas” as a first item in submenu.
Frankly, I prefer this way rather then making the top level item a link to another page – this way there is no confusion as to what your visitor wanted – display the submenu or follow the link.
