Merchant account was closed 13 days ago, but my products still in Shopping tab

Topic summary

A user closed their Google Merchant Center account (using only Free Listings) but noticed products still appearing in Google Shopping 13 days later.

Possible explanations discussed:

  • Google’s Shopping index can lag 2-4 weeks after account closure
  • Multiple accounts may exist under different emails
  • Account deletion may not have completed properly
  • Google crawls websites independently of Merchant Center

Google Support’s response:
Products may persist because Google discovers them through website crawls for organic search results and rich snippets, even without an active Merchant Center account. They provided a removal article but the user found it unhelpful.

Resolution:
Products disappeared after 25 days. The user successfully created a new Merchant Center account without synchronization issues.

Hi,

Can someone explain why many of my products are still showing on the Google Shopping tab, even though I closed my Google Merchant account 13 days ago?

The product in the image doesn’t belong to me — I included it just to show where my products are being displayed.

P.S. Before closing my Merchant account, I was only using the Free Listings option.

Here is a reply by looking at your question, you sayed 13 days ago, so a 24-48 hours waiting time is irrelevant in this perspective.

Is it possible that you accidentally created multiple accounts? Have you tried to login to Google Merchant Center using different emails?

The listing you see, are you sure this is your listing, when you click on it, where does the listing go to? Your website?

Do you see listings in Google Search Console, under Shopping?

if you have deleted your merchant center account entirely, then your products would have been deleted immediately. and your shopping ads and free listings will also stop showing (as per Google.)

in your case, there can be three scenarios:

  1. your account never got deleted and you were mistaken. maybe you missed out on some important step and assumed your account is deleted. therefore, you can still see your products. best case: please check if Google informed you via email about your account’s deletion.

  2. your account was recovered within 30 days of closure without your knowledge.

  3. you are probably not seeing your products (less likely but possible).

Totally normal, especially with Free Listings. Google’s Shopping index can lag behind actual account status, so it’s not uncommon for your products to stick around for a couple weeks post-closure. The listings should eventually disappear as Google’s crawlers refresh their cache. If they don’t vanish after, say, 30 days, you might want to reach out to support just to be sure nothing’s hanging in limbo.

Hi!

There is no Merchant Center account under my Gmail — I already closed it. However, my products are still appearing in the Shopping tab, showing my website and linking to my page.

I contacted Google Support, and here’s their response:

"We understand your concern that your products are still appearing on Google Shopping’s free listings even after you’ve deleted your Merchant Center account. As you informed us that the products are still appearing on Google shopping free listings post the deletion of the Merchant Center account. The reason for the products appearing may be because Google also discovers products through website crawls, even if you don’t have a Merchant Center account. This information is used to power organic search results, including rich snippets on Google Search and product listings on Google Images. Also if the products have been previously crawled by the Google crawlers there is a possibility that the products may still appear for organic search.

For more information regarding the product removal please refer to this article."

Honestly, this sounds like they’re just brushing me off.

They also linked to this article for more information on how to remove products — but it wasn’t helpful.

And I assume you already checked, you have no other accounts, under a different email address, this is very common because users don’t realize in some cases, they created multiple accounts.

Thank you! Prodcuts wanished after 25 days. Created new Merchant account and had no sync problem anymore
