Merchant Center disapproved products

How many of you have ever lost traffic or sales because Merchant Center disapproved products and you didn’t notice immediately?

How long did it take you to discover the issue?

What was the impact?

Definitely been there. The annoying part is that it usually doesn’t show up as a clean “Merchant Center is broken” alert. Eventually (days or weeks, depending on scale) you notice lower impressions and then you realize a few products have been sitting disapproved.

What I’d do as an operator is set up a quick daily checklist. On that list include a hyperlink to the Merchant Center diagnostics tab. Plus, add a quick look at the feed status in Shopify if you’re using the Google channel.

The biggest misses I’ve seen are variant issues, missing shipping info, price mismatches, and policy flags that only hit a few SKUs, so the store still looks fine until you dig in.

Impact-wise, it depends on how concentrated your traffic is. If a few hero products drive most of your paid and organic shopping traffic, even one disapproval can cut a noticeable chunk of sessions and sales before you catch it. If the catalog is broad, it’s more of a slow leak, which is almost worse because it’s easy to ignore.

For example last weeks Shopify servers went down, so that was unexpected and I didn’t notice immediately. Solution, was to request a review in GMC for this specific case.

It took a few hours to recover.

The impact was that there where no sales during this period.

But your question is a bit broad, your question can have 300+ different answers, so not sure what you are trying to learn from.

Every case is different.

For example some cases can take weeks to resolve, others hours. It’s not cut and dry.

Maybe if you share what issues you have, then we can guide you.

Hello there @Anastasiia4
Yes this happens regularly, especialy with Shopping feeds that have frequent updates. Most merchants don’t realize this until there is a drop in Google Shopping traffic or a decrease in conversion, usually within 1-3 days, sometimes longer if there is less traffic. The impact can be severe – lost impressions, paused ad spend efficiency. A good protection is to enable Merchant Center email notifications, check diagnostics on a daily basis, and use a feed management software with automatic error detection so disapprovals are flagged right away before impacting sales.
