But on Shopify under preferences there is no option for me to update the meta text I can only update the social Sharing and SEO.

We use the theme trade. Would appreciate if someone could help me.

Hi,

Hope this will help

  • Check Preferences section again in a fresh browser

  • Try editing SEO under Pages/Products

  • Use “Edit Website SEO” under each page

  • Check theme.liquid for meta description tag

  • Clear cache

Hey @oatcosuperfuel

The meta text is the same thing and that is the place to update your content. Google will often change your meta description based on what they think is the most appropriate content on the page. In other words, they don’t think your provided meta description is the best.

If you scroll down to your collection section on your homepage titled “Superfuel Overnight Oat Pouches”, that’s where Google is pulling the content in your search result. See below screenshot.

Crafting a meta description that Google wants to use can be really challenging sometimes because it is a recommendation, not a directive. No matter how hard you try, they may change it so don’t invest hours crafting the perfect meta description for one page.

Do your best to use a meta description that best describes the content that will follow. In your screenshot, it looks like you have “Oats with a purpose” as a heading if you will and then text under. Google won’t use it in that way. Stick to a sentence or two without breaks or paragraphs.

Then look at your content objectively. What exactly does the content you provided mean for your customer who doesn’t know who you are? Personally, I find Google’s meta description much more descriptive of the products you offer and I’d be more likely to click on that.
