Metafields for Data, Dimension or Size (Impulse)

Topic summary

Metafields of non-text types (Data, Dimension as Integer, Size as Dimension) appear on product pages in Admin but not in Theme Editor’s dynamic source list or in Navigation filters; only Text content-type metafields show.

Suggested approach was to connect metafields via Theme > Customize > Product > Add block > connect dynamic source, but the specified non-text metafields don’t appear as selectable sources.

Clarifications: Storefront filters support only certain metafield types; Editor blocks only surface metafields that match the block’s input type (e.g., Text blocks show text metafields). Linked Shopify docs were provided for filters and displaying metafields.

Counterpoint: OP notes number_integer and decimal should be supported for filters but still don’t show, and the same behavior occurs on both Impulse and a free Shopify theme, suggesting a platform-side issue rather than theme-specific.

Attachments (screenshots) are central, showing metafield creation, product page visibility, Navigation filter options, and Theme Editor lists.

Next steps: OP plans to contact Shopify Support and ask Impulse developers for a list of supported metafields. No confirmed resolution; discussion remains open with uncertainty around numeric metafields in filters.

Dear all,

My Theme (Impulse) has been updated for 2.0 and I tried to create metafields for Data (Data as a Content type), Dimension (as Integer), Size (as Dimension) and none of this worked!

I see all metafields on the Product page in Shopify Admin Zone but not in Navigation list or in the Theme Editor.

If anyone came across the same problem?

Thanks!

Hi @Olga03

You can connect metafields to your theme to display them on your online store by following the steps below:

  • From Online Store > Theme > Customize
  • From the dropdown menu at the top center, select Product > Default Product.
  • Within the sidebar editor, click on the small arrow next to the Product section > click on Add Block > Tab > Click on connect dynamic source icon and connect with these metafield you have created before.

Hope this helps.

Hi, thank you for helping! But it does not help (

The problem is that none of the meta fields I mentioned is shown is displayed in the list to choose from. They are listed in Settings/Metafields, on a Product page in Shopify Admin. And that’s all.

I see only meta fields with TEXT as a content type.

Hi @Olga03

Sorry if I didn’t get your point but when you created metafields, they are only shown on the product page. If you want to display them on an online store or something, you need to connect them to your theme editor as I mentioned above.

You can check out this help doc for reference to learn more about how metafield work.

Hi @Olga03 ,

Does it mean you want to add Metafields at Customize?

Please send me the screenshot where you want to add the data, and I will check it for you.

Hi! @AvadaCommerce Thanks again!

Yes, sure, I have to connect them to a theme BUT this meta-s with this content type are not shown in the list of Dynamic Source in the Theme Editor and they are not shown in Navigation list of meta-s in Shopify Admin Zone (

Moreover, I suspected that it is specifically Impulse problem. But I downloaded a free Shopify theme and the picture is the same.

Hi @LitExtension Thank you! Please see attached

  1. a page where I created meta-s .

  2. a product page where I see all of them

  3. Navigation list where I see only three of them where Content type is Text

  4. a Theme Product page where I see the same list of meta-s as in Navigation where Content type is Text.

Hi @Olga03 ,

I checked and everything works fine.

Hope it is clear to you.

Hi @LitExtension

Thank you for making Metafield using option more clear to me!

RE: FILTERS

Yes, not all Metafields can be used as Filters but this option

  • number_integer or decimal

is available and I I do not see these fields too.

So I’m afraid there is an issue here and I need to refer to Shopify Support Team again. I thought I was not the only one who faced this situation.

RE: THEME EDITOR

I see videos where reviewers chose Text block in the Theme and added Date + a description (for example they wanted to add information about when a particular product is available again)…

But you inspired me to request a list of supported metafields from the IMPULSE theme developers to make sure what to expect.

Thank you again!

Hi @Olga03 ,

Yes, this is supported by Shopify, so I don’t think the theme can edit it.

If it helped you solve your issue, please mark it as a solution. Thank you and good luck.
