We do not qualify for the exemption and I already contacted support and they are the one who told me I would have to find and pay for a third part app to have it supported. Hence why I came on here to ask. Extremely frustrating and still have not found a way to collect the fee for the orders.
Topic summary
Merchants need to apply Minnesota’s new Retail Delivery Fee (RDF) of $0.50 on in‑state shipments for orders over $100, effective July 1, 2024. Shopify’s native tax engine supports only percentage-based taxes, creating implementation challenges for a fixed per-order fee.
Several expect Shopify to mirror its support for the Colorado Retail Delivery Fee, but guidance has been inconsistent. Some report being told to use a third‑party app; others cite Shopify Help Center documentation indicating support can enable the MN RDF upon request.
Exemptions noted from the documentation:
- Retailers with prior‑year Minnesota retail sales under $1,000,000.
- Marketplace providers facilitating sales under $100,000 in Minnesota in the prior year.
Recent updates: One merchant says support is “looking into it,” while another not exempt was directed to a third‑party app and still lacks a solution. No official toggle or universal rollout has been confirmed.
Status: Unresolved. Action items are to verify exemption status and contact Shopify Support to request RDF enablement; otherwise consider third‑party apps. The linked Help Center article is central to the guidance.
