I keep seeing this advertisement online that states “most Shopify users just need to tweak this one missing line of code in order to show up more on searches.” Is it a scam or is there something to it? TIA!

This is a marketing gimmick. There is no single line of code that magically forces Google to rank a website higher. SEO is a complex combination of reputation, content quality, and technical health; no secret switch exists to bypass that work.
The advertisement is almost certainly referring to Schema Markup (or Structured Data). This is code that helps search engines understand specific details like your price, stock status, and review rating.
