Hi,
I’m using Shopify POS for a physical retail store in France, and I’ve run into a major limitation.
In my setup, I use an external bank card terminal (TPE), which is very common in Europe. However, Shopify POS does not allow me to record a simple “Card” payment as a manual payment method in the POS interface.
This creates a real issue:
-
I cannot properly distinguish between cash and card payments in the POS
-
I’m forced to use workarounds (notes, tags), which is not practical in a busy retail environment
-
This also raises concerns regarding accounting clarity and compliance (NF525 / anti-fraud regulations in France)
Important point:
Many certified POS systems in France allow selecting “Card” even without terminal integration. So this is not a legal limitation, but a product limitation.
What we need is very simple:
A basic manual payment option labeled “Card” (not tied to Shopify Payments)
This would:
-
Improve usability in physical retail
-
Support common European setups
-
Avoid unnecessary workarounds
Is this feature planned? And if not, can it be considered?
I believe many EU merchants are affected by this.
Thanks
