Mixed shipping rates displays 'Shipping' - how do I update this?

Hi.

I need to update my checkout page, so that when a customer orders two products which use different shipping rates, they get a better instruction than ‘Shipping’.

I have looked through all the Edit Language rows, but anything I update does not update to the checkout page.

Where can I update this element?

Cheers
Dave

Hi @ArmyOfDaves .

Can you send a screenshot so that we can see which part of the checkout page you’re referring to?

For example, are you referring to the section highlighted in the image below, or something else?

Let us know!

Hi

Yes that’s exactly the place I’m hoping to update. Here’s a screenshot of a mixed in/out of stock basket which simply states ‘shipping’. This tells the customer nothing, and I’d like to update it if possible.

Thanks for the screenshot, Dave. You should be able to update this via the Shipping and Delivery page of your Shopify admin, and by following the instructions below:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Shipping and delivery.
  2. Click the Manage button next to the shipping profile that you’d like to update.
  3. Scroll down to locate the rate name that you’d like to update. In your case, the rate name would be called ‘Shipping’ as shown on your screenshot.
  4. Next to the rate name, click on the three dots and click Edit rate, and under Rate name type in the new shipping rate name you’d like to show customers on checkout. You can click here to see a video of what this process looks like.
  5. Make sure to Save your page and feel free to then test your checkout to see if the rate name has been updated.

If there’s anything from the above that I can help clarify, please let me know! Apart from this though, is there anything else that you’re working on right now on your store?

Seeing as you’re currently setting up your shipping rates, I thought I’d also leave you some of our resources to help further optimise your store’s shipping rates, you can check them out below:

Hi Kimi

Thanks so much for your reply and advice. Unfortunately this hasn’t solved my issue.

Having looked through all my shipping rates there is no rate at all named ‘Shipping’. I suspect this is message is triggered elsewhere when a mixed delivery is triggered (some items from one shipping profile, others from another).

Is there a ‘default’ shipping method elsewhere within the setting I may be missing?

Dave

@ArmyOfDaves

Ah, I can confirm that your suspicion is correct!

When multiple shipping rates from different shipping profiles are combined on checkout, the rates are added together and will simply show as ‘Shipping’. However, this only occurs when the shipping rates aren’t named the same within the different profiles, as explained on the table below.

We have a great help guide here that also explains this in more detail, so feel free to take a closer look at it for more information.

So it looks like this is expected behaviour, though I definitely understand how useful it would be to be able to edit this ‘Shipping’ text. I’ll go ahead and pass this information along to our developers for feedback, so that we can look at further ways of improving our platform. Just a note that we can’t guarantee when and if changes will be made, or provide a timeline for updates on this request. However any updates will be listed in our changelog here.

Hi @Kimi_2

Thanks for the explanation, it’s an annoying little glitch which results in a poor customer service message, but I guess I’m stuck with it for now.
