multi-variant product as different products displayed as variants

Topic summary

A user asks how to display separate products (each with unique IDs/links) as variants on a product page, where selecting a variant redirects to the corresponding product—similar to a Polish marketplace example.

Confirmed Feasibility:

  • Multiple respondents confirm this is possible by creating separate products in Shopify admin (e.g., product-black, product-white) and linking them through custom templates or apps.
  • One user provides a working example storefront demonstrating the concept.

Suggested Solutions:

  1. Easify Product Options app – Uses an “Option URL” feature to create variant-like switching between separate products. Requires creating similar option sets for each product with different default selections. Includes detailed setup screenshots showing color options linking to different product pages.

  2. Variant Robot app – Automatically links separate products based on product data (title, SKU, metafield, or tag) without manual coding. Supports multiple display modes (images, blocks, dropdowns, color swatches) and offers a 14-day free trial.

Open Question:

  • One user asks if SKU/MPN can be used in URLs instead of product names (unanswered).

The original poster requests guidance on implementation after confirmation.

Is it possible for a multi-variant product to be separate two products (with different links), but on the product page selecting a variant to redirect to the other product?

For the sake of an example I will attach an offer from the Polish marketplace allegro, there you can see what solution I mean. Each color variant is a separate offer with a separate ID, but they are displayed as variants.

example

Hi @ErnestoF . This is possible only for separate products. Like in admin you should have 3 products. product-black, product-white, product-grey.
Then it’s possibe to create such template. Check here

Thank you. Are you able to suggest me where to start to implement a solution?

Hi @ErnestoF ,

Consider utilizing the Easify Product Options app to implement cross-product linking among your distinct products - using the exclusive Option URL feature. It enables the product pages to showcase a similar appearance to Shopify variants while facilitating seamless transitions between different products, each distinguished by unique IDs/SKUs :hugs: .

Here’s an example involving separate Black and White T-shirt products, showcasing the app’s capability to create Color options for effortless switching:

App Settings:

To implement this, you will need to create similar option sets for each of your products that only differ in color. The option sets differ in the default selected option value and assigned product.

  • White T-shirt option set:

  • Duplicate and edit the White T-shirt option set to create the Black T-shirt option set.

If you encounter any challenges during the setup process, don’t hesitate to drop a message to the Easify team through the in-app live chat.

Is it possible to use the sku or mpn instead of black-t-shirt at the end of the url?

Hi @Ihor-Sh and @ErnestoF ,

The Shopify app Variant Robot can automatically link your seperate listed products, that are presented as variants on your shop, without having to insert any code:
https://apps.shopify.com/variant-robot

Variant Robot can automatically link seperate products together, based on your product data.
It can link products based on Product title, sku, metafield or tag.

The app also supports multiple display modes such as: Images, blocks, dropdowns, or auto-color swatches.

No need for any manual mapping, this is an automated solution that only requires one-time setup.

The app comes with a free 14 day trial.
