Multiple variant images for Amazon

Topic summary

A merchant selling across Amazon, Walmart, eBay, and Target is seeking solutions to assign multiple images to product variants—a limitation in Shopify’s native structure, which only supports one image per variant.

Key challenges identified:

  • Shopify’s product structure doesn’t natively support multiple images per variant
  • Product attributes, images, and taxonomies aren’t fully compatible across different marketplaces
  • The solution depends on current product publishing methods and requires mapping/transformation

Proposed solutions:

  • Using a Product Information Management (PIM) system as the source of truth
  • Custom app development to handle variant-to-image mapping
  • A community member shared a free tool for merging Shopify products into grouped variations for Amazon, with potential to add multi-image support

Current status: Discussion remains open with one participant expressing interest in a demo meeting to explore the proposed tool further.

Are there any apps that allow you to assign a variant more than one image? We sell on Amazon, Walmart, Ebay, and Target, but are mostly concerned with our Amazon listings. Any advice or ideas?

@taylorosi

Do you use a PIM (Product Information Management) store the products/variants?

If you just use Shopify as the source of truth for product information, then try to list the variants with multiple images to various channels like Amazon, Ebay, you would be limited by Shopify’s product structure. A bit of customization via public app or custom app is unavoidable in this case. I understand your pain since the product attributes/images/category/taxonomy etc are not 100% compatible with all these eCommerce platforms, Shopify variant only supporting one image is probably not the only issue you face. Let me know if If you wanted a custom solution for this particular issue. The solution will also depend on how you’re currently publishing products to Amazon, there is a a bit mapping/transformation required here to solve your problem.

I noticed this thread and wanted to share something I’ve been working on, since this challenge seems to come up a lot for multi-channel sellers. I built a free tool that helps merge multiple Shopify products into grouped variations specifically for Amazon .

After reading this related thread , it seems like supporting Amazon-style multiple image mapping per variant could be really helpful too. Is that a feature you’d find useful, or are there other pain poins you’d want solved for Amazon/Ebay workflows?

I’d genuinely appreciate any thoughts..
