My customers cannot register (create ) and login into their account

Topic summary

Main issue: Customers can’t create or log in to accounts. Accounts are set to optional, but there’s no visible register button, and visiting /account/register shows a blank page.

Key questions: 1) What’s the best way to let customers register (e.g., create a page or add a button)? 2) How to activate the account registration form/page?

Latest update: After trying suggested URLs, both returned “Sorry, this shop is currently unavailable,” even though the store is live. Help documentation did not resolve the issue.

Peer input: Another merchant reported a similar situation caused by theme customization—login/sign-up buttons became the same color as the background, effectively hiding them. This points to a potential theme styling/visibility issue.

Status: No confirmed resolution for the original poster. The problem may involve hidden UI elements due to theme styling and/or why the /account/register path returns an “unavailable” message. Discussion remains open with unresolved root cause.

Hello,

We set the account requirement to be optional-in other words, the customer can open an account if they choose before placing an order. If they prefer not to create an account, they can just guest check out and finish the order.

Recently, we have customers complain that they cannot open an account. So we realized that we do not have any where on our website a button to let our customers to open an account.

Question 1-what is the best way to let our customers to register? Should we create a page ?

In addition-I understand that mywesite/account/register should let our customers register. However, when we go to this address, account/register, it is blank.

Question 2-How can I activate an account registration form/page?

Thank you very much.

Michael

Hi Justin,

Thank you for your suggestions. I tried both urls, and both showed only the following message:

Sorry, this shop is currently unavailable.

But our shop is available and live as we are aware of.

so, the suggestions do not work for us. I also read the Help file link, and that did not help us either.

I hope that you and or the experts can see from the error message what may be the root cause of this problem. Thank you so much.

I had the very same problem. I am using an own template, where I edited the colors. Then I realized, the login / sign up button became black on the black background… :slightly_smiling_face:
