NEED Advice | Moving from WooCommerce to Shopify. Do we really need redirects?

Hello,

We currently have our website with WooCommerce and will make the switch to Shopify in the next few weeks.

At the same time, we are rebranding from a subscription box to a normal commerce shop, as well as expanding from German language only, to English (and other languages eventually).

My question is this: Do we really need redirects if we want to start a whole fresh website?

Due to the language change, we will not bring over our few blog posts, all products have been made new, and a full rebranding is underway.

I’m not worried about traffic since we have a good sized social media presence and loads of content ready for paid ads.

The old website was a home page, shop page, and 10-15 articles in German, so I was unsure if we even need redirects…

Is there anything critical that I may be missing?

Thanks!

Best,

Ty

Hi there,
Jack from OpenThinking here!

It depends how well those pages were performing on Search Engines, and if you got traffic from them.

A good practise it to always set up 302 redirects when changing URL structure. Plus it doesn’t cost you nothing to set them up, imo you can only gain from having them in place.

let me know if this works for your. If yes; accept my answer and give me thumbs up! Thank you.

Hello Jack,

Thanks for your response! I guess it does make sense. I will check to see which pages bring in any traffic and set up redirects.

Thanks again!

Best,

Ty
