I am trying to point my domain to shopify..i have changed the A record and the CNAME do i have to change the name servers also to point to Shopify? I am currently using Homestead. I know that it can take up to 48 hours but I am getting an error on the Shopify domain page. Thank you

The domain changes have to propagate before the ‘error message’ on the Shopify domain page will go away.
If you’re sure that you’ve set the A-record and CNAME record correctly (and that there aren’t any extra A-records or CNAME records set that could contradict the real records), then you should just need to wait a bit, and then the error message will go away.
Ex. The domain should only have 1 A-record set for the main domain, and 1 CNAME record set for ‘WWW’ … if there are multiple records set for the same thing, then that can also cause an issue.

As @StephensWorld has mentioned, it can take time for the domain changes to propagate. As per our Help Center resource, this process can take up to 48 hours. After it’s verified, your domain is listed in the Domain section of the Domains page with the status Connected.
As for changing the Nameservers, only an A Record and CNAME Record should be updated in order to point your domain to Shopify. You do not need to change the Nameservers.

If you set A and CNAME, no need to change NS to Shopify
Vice versa, if you change NS to Shopify, no need to set A and CNAME
They are 2 different methods of poiting a domain to a site.
So if i set the name servers to shopify what do i set A and CNAME to?
You can remove A and CNAME if you set NS to Shopify.
After configuring your domain in your Shopify store, Shopify will automatically set A and CNAME in their system.
Do you know what the nameserver for Shopify is?
Sorry, it looks like Shopify does not support this method. It only allows to set up using A and CNAME.
