I am currently in the process of buying a store that is already ran on Shopify. I will be changing the name so there will be a change to the website as well. I am wondering if I need to make a new website and account before the transfer or wait? Is this anything that anyone on here could help me with?
When you’re buying an existing Shopify store, you don’t need to create a new Shopify account before the transfer. The current owner can transfer the entire store to you, including the website, customer data, product listings, and more. Here’s a general process:
1. Store Transfer: The current owner initiates the store transfer process from their Shopify admin. They’ll enter your email address, and you’ll receive an invitation to accept the store.
2. Accept the Transfer: You’ll need to create a new Shopify account (if you don’t have one already) to accept the store transfer. Once you accept the transfer, you’ll become the new owner of the store.
3. Change the Store Details: After you’ve taken ownership of the store, you can change the store’s name, domain, and other details from your Shopify admin.
4. Billing: You’ll need to enter your billing information to keep the store active. Any apps or services that require separate billing will also need to be updated with your billing information.
Remember, it’s important to thoroughly review the store’s performance, financials, and other details before you agree to the purchase. You might also want to consult with a legal or business advisor to ensure that the purchase agreement is fair and protects your interests.
If you need help with the store transfer process, you can contact Shopify Support. They can guide you through the process and answer any questions you might have.
