I have been trying different methods to add an image background to the password page of my store. I have tried everything I’ve found on the forum but no luck. Under theme.css I have these lines of code:

display: table;
height: 100%;
width: 100%;
color: var(–color-body-text);
background-color: var(–color-body);
background-size: cover; }
How can I add an image asset to this? Please help

Welcome to the Shopify community!
Since the rollout of the 2.0 themes the method for changing the background image for the password page has changed, and been simplified.
Previously you would need to upload and replace the image from within the theme code itself, but that is no longer required!
If you are using a 2.0 theme, please open your theme editor and from the template navigation drop down at the top of the page select “Others” then “Password”. From there, you can choose the background field in the left hand column to upload a new image. Please see the image below for a reference:
No my shopify store does not have this option.
Thank you for that confirmation! I double checked and saw that the theme version I was testing on was Dawn 3.0, and when I went back to an older version (2.2.0) I can see that the option to change the password page background is not yet included.
It may be worth considering to install the most up to date version of your theme file to unlock this feature, among others.
Is there a way to update my theme without have to redo the live store?
Not yet, but that is a feature we are actively working on. Some merchants may see a prompt to update their theme file to the newest version, even if they have made coding changes. This is still in a closed beta though.
It might be worthwhile to reach out to our live support to request being opted into the beta program though. I can’t guarantee that is possible, but it doesn’t hurt to ask! Before making any changes to your theme file, I do strongly recommend creating a backup of your theme in it’s current state. And it is possible that @KetanKumar or some of our other partners may have coding solution you can use in the interim as well.
