Needing an age verification app to be on Shop?

I wanted to get my store in Shop and am very late to the game. I have the whole verification checklist done except for one. It’s telling me ‘Your Online Store is not using any password control or age verification apps’. I’m not sure why though? I have nothing from their prohibited list, unless I’m missing something? I reached out to support to see if they can see some code or something, telling them exactly what it is that’s flagging it. I would rather remove whatever it is, instead of putting an age verification app on my website. They weren’t much help. I guessed it could be a sticker with a curse word but it wasn’t in the listing. I used ‘WTF’ instead. However, I know multiple shops on SHOP that have vulgar and curse word stickers. So I don’t see how that can be it.

Hi, @Meghan_Montoya .

If that bullet point from the checklist isn’t ticked, it tells us that the system has determined that there is an access control app present on your store, which affects your store’s eligibility from being featured in the Shop app.

To resolve this, you’ll need to navigate to Settings > Apps and sales channels, and double check that your store doesn’t currently have any access control apps installed. This can include a password control or age verification app, such as the ones mentioned in the last bullet point of the Merchant Requirements section in this guide.

If you’ve located an access control app on your store, you can remove the app in order to become eligible for Shop. Keep in mind, however, that it can take up to 48 hours for the system to update any changes to your merchant’s Shop eligibility status, and this is an automatic process that cannot be expedited.

I’ve just run into this. The third party app I suspect is completely unrelated to SHOP as it’s to manage wholesale vendors. This is actually really bad because it’s closed my SHOP presence and all my potential sales for consumers. There has to be a middle ground, an exception, as this is probably not the first time this is happening to small businesses.

Thanks for joining this thread, @cearyn .

To clarify, the third-party app won’t necessarily have to be related to Shop in order for the system to determine your store’s eligibility from being featured in the Shop app. So if the system has found a wholesale app on your store, then it’s highly likely that your store won’t automatically be opted into Shop.

For more context, at this stage our system for the Shop channel won’t respect any wholesale rules that a store may have with their products. So as mentioned, wholesale merchants are typically automatically not opted into Shop by default, in order to mitigate the risks that being featured in the Shop app could have for the store (ie. customers in seeing the store’s wholesale pricing rather than the retail pricing).

In saying this though, if a merchant would like to still sell with Shop and accept the risk of special wholesale product rules in being ignored, they can opt in themselves by installing the Shop sales channel, and to then navigate to Settings > Sell with Shop.

If you don’t see the option to opt in on your end, you can contact our live support team via the Help Center here, by typing in contact support in the chat box, so that we can look into manually opting you in from our end.

This same thing has been an issue for me. Everything else looks fine minus that. I hope there’s resolution to this because I haven’t been able to figure out what it is.

Hi, @VMC20 . Thanks for joining this thread.

Have you checked all of the installed apps on your store, via Settings > Apps and sales channels, to ensure that you don’t currently have any access control apps installed? I shared a link in my initial reply on this thread that includes some example apps to look out for.

To further clarify, unlike wholesale apps, having an access control app does affect eligibility to be featured in Shop. So if you’d like to be considered for Shop, you’ll need to remove any of your access control apps before the system can re-review your store’s eligibility.

If you’re having trouble with locating which app could be the culprit, you can contact our live support team using the link in my previous reply, and we’ll be able to securely access your store to further assist.

I have the Same issue however. under UK Law Age Verification is required for some Products - I assume SHOP does comply with UK Law - So how is this sorted? What is the method to apply Age Verification to Products when using SHOP?
