I really like the new Shopify ‘Customer Account’ functionality with the one time passcode emailed etc… what I really don’t like though is that I can’t change the language used:
The form is clean and simple BUT if this is the means by which someone creates a new account, which it does seamlesly, the language is confusing, I’d like to be able to change it.
For instance the title of this page ‘Sign In’, but if a customer has not yet created an account, it’s ambiguous, the customers may think that they need to first create an account in some other area of the site, not knowing that this is actually how is done now.
I’d like to see the following simple updates:
-
I’d like to customise the wording from ‘Sign In’ to something like ‘Sign In or Sign Up’.
-
If this is the first time someone is ‘signing up’ then I’d like to display some sort of message once they are signed in… so instead of going to /account/orders it would go to /account/welcome and we could add a custom message.
Yes I could revert to the old customer accounts and login etc but it’s not anywhere as good and the gains from the new system outweigh the loss of customisation… just a few simple customisations would be great.
cheers!

Hey @captainbenno
Not sure if you saw this already, but Shopify recently released an improvement for this that allows updating the text on the page: Customize text on the sign-in page for customer accounts - Shopify Changelog
For example, justing being able to change the default “Sign in” text to something like “Sign in or Register” may help with the customer experience and preventing confusion.
I’m not aware of any native way to add messaging or redirects for new customers specifically, but you could try looking into an account customization app such as Hubble which appears to provide conditional blocks to the account pages.
Well, the new customer accounts don’t support any text changes natively yet. Additionally, you may want to use Shopify’s localization files with Hydrogen, or a headless setup for total control. Or, deploy a custom message informing users of the new process and provide redirect logic to walk them through during their first experience. Hope this helps.
@SealSubs-Roan Not sure if you saw, but Shopify just recently did start allowing changes to the text for the sign in/register page
