New black background shopify admin why?

From Wednesday evening my Admin Shopify home page became black background instead of usual white.

How should I go back to Admin Shopify home page white background ??

I don’t like this new style

It sounds like Shopify may have enabled Dark Mode for your admin interface, or you might be seeing a browser/system theme change.

Have you checked whether the dark appearance is showing across all Shopify admin pages or only on the Home dashboard?

You could also try:

  • Opening Shopify Admin in an incognito/private window

  • Testing with a different browser

  • Checking your operating system’s appearance settings if Shopify is following your device theme

If the issue started suddenly and there isn’t an option to switch it back in your admin preferences, it may be part of a recent Shopify interface update. In that case, Shopify Support would be able to confirm whether the appearance can be changed.

Let us know what browser and device you’re using, and someone may be able to narrow it down further.

It sounds like your Shopify Admin has switched to dark mode.

You can change it back to the white background by checking your Shopify admin appearance settings or your browser/system theme settings.

Try this:

  1. Open Shopify Admin

  2. Click your profile icon (top-right)

  3. Go to Settings / Preferences / Appearance (if available)

  4. Switch from Dark Mode to Light Mode

If you don’t see that option, your browser or operating system’s dark mode may be affecting it, so try turning off dark mode there as well.

Carol, this is just a dark mode in you browers syncing with shopify admin.
Go to your shopify admin, check your profile icon.

Then check for a theme, or just switch your device back to light mode.
Shopify admin follows those settings.

If this is related to the Shopify Mobile app, then I’m having the same problem. Its started when the new Shopify Admin dashboard rolled out, I know this as I had another store that was still fine in the mobile app but when I opened that same store on desktop, the Admin home dashboard got updated and then so did the mobile app.

It’s absolutely driving me nuts!! I deleted all the apps on my phone and even apps in my store!! I contacted support several times and they all said to check my integration with other apps. It’s even made sales stop!! I feels so much better seeing this and will share this with the support ticket I still have open. Hope it gets fixed soon- it’s awful!! It’s only showing on my phone app.

I cannot find anywhere to do that.

when you click on your profile picture, there is nothing but a list of your stores. There is no dark mode settings, it did this automatically and only showing on phone app.

it’s not only showing on my phone app- actually all devices so it seems like a shopify bug or an intentional rollout which is not great.
