New Customer Accounts Extension (CAE) design - Feedback for Shopify

So, Shopify has decided to update the Customer Accounts interface design recently (a few days ago, I’m posting on 1st July 2026).

Not sure if this hasbeen discussed before, but I couldn’t find any topic.

To me, this is a total failure. The new design is attrocious and horrendous.

And I don’t mean the functional design. Functionality is intact as far as I can see, but the visual design styling is a complete fail. Sorry to say it that way, but Shopify needs a bit of “tough love” here.

This is a perfect example of updating something for the sake of updating it when it was perfect in the first place already.

I can’t even imagine how this new design styling even passed the Q&A stage, and has been approved for the release to the public.

I’m a graphic desginer by profession, and to someone who has a bit of sense of aethetics…, this design release is simply SLOPPY, to say the least.

Just have a look at how nice the Customer Accounts menu looks before entering the Customer Accounts (1st image) and how bad it looks after entering it (2nd image - the new “better” design).

For anyone remembering how the old Customer Accounts design looked, this is a comple step backwards.

I’m talking specifically about the Customer Accounts MENU.

So, from my professional experience, we have the following problems:

  • crammed text.
  • oversized fonts.
  • no proper spacing between menu options.
  • no proper paddings (left / right or top / bottom)
  • the currently selected option is barely visible (just a slight colour change: from grey to black.
  • the currently selected option no longer has an underline or anything that makes it more prominent).
  • no framing.
  • no round corners on any elements (because there are no elements except the text on a plain white colour).
  • bad alignment.
  • the slide menu now slides brom the bottom (black text on white background which doesn’t even match the Shopify colours), and the side menu looked much better and it matched the usual Side Cart animation that most Shopify stores have.
  • the X icon of the slide menu now is in a different position, so you have to look again where you tap to close it; previously where you tapped to open the menu, it was where you tapped to close the menu, much more intuitive and effective and functional.
  • the menu sliding from the bottom takes much longer to open (different smart phones have different screen heights; but when it was sliding from the left, it has a unified look on all smartphones.
  • no general visual styling whatsoever.
  • the entire MENU looks like a few separate lines of text in a Word document.

Was this “designed” in 1998 !?

It looks as if a coder (who has no sense of visual aethetics) has simply added the options using code, without any sort of other aethetic consideration. No visual design was involved here.

It’s as if Shopify dosn’t employ any graphic designers, or that none worked on that day. Or maybe they warned about the disaster but a manager just decided to disregard them, and release the monster to the public.

Can we please revert this shameful release, until you think it through again, please? Or just leave it as it was. It was perfectly fine, maybe just add a few tiny styling elements if you really wanted to improve that.

Am I the only one bothered by this ? :joy:

Hi @peteristrate,

If you want to revert to the old interface so you can do following steps:
Go to online store > setting > customer accounts > switch to classic
This will restore the previous interface for you.

That’s not an option anymore.
The old Customer Accounts design is a deprecated option… which has now been removed. If it has not been removed for all yet, it will.
