New Customer Accounts Login Experience Won't Support Apps

So, I’ve had my store w/Shopify since 2016 - and I’ve found that Shopify doesn’t always do the best with educating older customers about all the new options.

My store is still set up for classic customer accounts, but I’ve just now learned that if I switch to the New Customer Accounts setup, it will remove the need for customers to remember the password to their accounts, which sounds GREAT!

However, it appears that the new customer accounts login experience doesn’t support apps? (based on the screenshot below)??

So, I’m kind of stuck for what to do.

Here’s my situation. I use ReCharge for subscriptions, and I need an easy way for people to get access to a place to manage their subscriptions.

Scenario 1: I keep my store on the classic customer accounts set up. Then when I click on “LOGIN” from my store, it goes to the standard email/password screen, but the ReCharge app is able to put a red MANAGE SUBSCRIPTIONS button under the primary login, which is great for our customers.

Scenario 2: However, I’d like to switch to the new customer accounts setup for my store, so customers (every customer, not just subscription customers) would have a passwordless way to access their accounts.

However, when I turn that option on for my store, it creates a new login experience, because the red “Manage Subscriptions” button is no longer on the login page (I’m guessing because the new customer accounts login experience doesn’t support apps).

So here’s my question:

Will the new customer accounts setup work with apps in the future? Or is there a workaround to get some additional content on this above login screen?

Anyone else dealing with this?

Hey @adamwc !

Our Customer Fields app is all about registration so this is definitely something we are seeing a lot of questions about.

Currently, there is no way at all to edit the “new customer account” login or account page, so it would not be possible to add the ReCharge button here. We are definitely hoping that Shopify will open this up in the future to add more compatibility, but I am not aware of any information that indicates that will happen.

I am not very familiar with ReCharge specifically, but the only option here would be to add the manage subscriptions button on a completely different page in your theme, or maybe as a link in your header or footer. Otherwise, you will need to stick with classic accounts for the time being.
