New POS Pro and Yearly Subscription Plans

Have a question concerning the new Shopify app and plans. I currently operate a small brick and mortar store in the US. We have one location. I understand the new POS app will begin on November 1st.

In November 2019, our yearly Shopify plan was $836.78. Under the new plans beginning November 1st, my Shopify plan will be $79.00 plus an additional $89.00 for the POS Pro. This is a total of $168.00 per month or $2016.00 per year. Is this correct?

If correct, this is an increase of 241%. Please confirm because if this is true, we will be looking for a new ecommerce plan.

Same! This is rediculous!

Seems strange the Shopify Gurus can reply to other topics but not this one. Why not? It’s a simple question that needs to be addressed.

During the middle of a pandemic with many businesses closing their doors for good, Shopify will not explain a 200%+ increase to some small business owners.

Where is the justification?

Hey, @Robert70 .

Elias here with Shopify Support. Thank you for reaching out!

I can understand the new Shopify POS app will be a transition and I’d be happy to help clarify a few things. The all-new Shopify POS app is available in two options - POS Pro and POS Lite.

POS Pro is $89 per month per location, which includes existing and new features that scale with more complex brick-and-mortar retail needs. POS Lite includes most of the existing features and comes with your plan at no extra cost.

We also have a guide to help you with choosing the right app subscription for your store and you’ll be able to change your POS subscription at any time - There’s a step-by-step guide on managing your POS subscription right on our FAQ!

With that said, maybe I can help determine which POS plan best suits your retail store, are there any features you’re currently using?

Bringing this thread back up.

I sell both on my Shopify website and in my wee shop, using the POS. I must say, I really do love the upgraded Shopify POS and am happy to use it, but I need to know: will I be forced to pay $89/month to keep doing this? Because that is just not feasible. I read about the free Lite plan, yes, but I just need a solid ā€˜yes’ or ā€˜no’ as to whether or not it will work for me.

I am the only employee here (so no need for Staff) and I don’t use receipts or a printer. I only need this to continue to a) accept credit cards, and b) sync up with my online inventory. Thanks.

Chris

Hey Chris,

I finally received an answer. You are not required to select the new POS Pro app at an additional $89 per month per store. The POS Lite comes with your subscription and is free. To select the POS Lite, go to your Shopify program (management) page and select:

Sales Channels
Point of Sales
Manage Subscriptions
Select in the drop down menu: POS Lite
Click Save

Your done. Definitely a relief once I talked to someone at Shopify. You will use the new App but just not have all the additional bells and whistles (POS Pro) that most users do not need.

Hope this information is helpful.

Robert

Hey, @Chrisjigsaw .

Thanks for joining the thread and sharing a description of the functions you need for your POS. I think the Shopify POS Lite will fit your needs, as it’s able to process credit cards and sync with your online inventory. The POS subscription can be changed at anytime and you can manage that under ā€˜Point of sale > Locations’ - We have a step-by-step guide right on our FAQ as well.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions on this topic, don’t hesitate to let me know!

I have a follow up question to this. I have been using Shopify for many years with no brick and mortar store, only online sales and pop-up markets a few times per month. Up until this month, July 2022, I have been able to accept orders at markets, mark them as unfulfilled then ship the orders once I get to my studio for the few items that may be out of stock on the day of the market. Today in trying to fulfill these orders I am unable to because it automatically marked them as
ā€œno shipping requiredā€. Am I to understand that in order to allow customers to purchase items at my markets that I will later ship, I have to upgrade to the POS Pro app for $89/mo??? I currently only have the $29/mo Shopify plan and it seems outrageous that I would have to spend 3 times that much just to do what I’ve already been doing for years. Please confirm if this is the case so I understand if I should explore other options.

Hey, @Lysandra_Weber .

Thank you for joining the thread and posting this question!

I’ve taken a look at our POS feature overview, and I can confirm that the ship to home feature is only available on Shopify POS Pro at this time. While this feature was included in the POS Classic, you can also consider using the Shopify mobile app in tandem with Shopify POS during your pop-up events. The Shopify mobile app allows you to create draft orders for out-of-stock items, which will enable you to fulfill the orders when you get back to your studio.

I’d love to learn more about your business! What kinds of products do you sell? Have you created draft orders using the Shopify mobile app before?
