New POS "search suggestions" update is horrible

Hey everyone, I couldn’t find a thread about this yet.

But the new “search suggestions” auto complete in the Shopify POS App are horrible, and I need Shopify to either remove the “feature” or allow us to disable it. It constantly causes typos by interfering with what an employee is typing, and causes incorrect words to be entered into search when typing the description of a product on POS by employees. It makes the search almost un-usable, and significantly increases the time to ring up a customer. It makes us look dumb in front of customers. I am sure some design engineer at shopify thinks they are super smart for adding this, but they need to actually work in a store and test these “features” before foisting them on us without our consent and no option to disable them.

Please note, this is NOT a post about predictive text engine in android OS. That is disabled and not the issue here. This specifically refers to the new “feature” called “search suggestions” talked about here: Shopify Retail Roundup (2026) - Shopify UK

Here is a suggestion to Shopity, STOP UPDATING THE POS app constantly with jarring changes that make my employees surprised and confused. The constant updates and UI changes aren’t helpful.

Extra info:

POS app is being used on approved Samsung android tablets, with physical USB keyboards (required, as employees have difficulty typing on touch screens and too much to type to be using a touch keyboard).

Hey @VetcoManager
Understand the main issue

First it is important to know that:

Search suggestions in Shopify POS is a built in system feature
It automatically tries to help with typing and search
There is currently no option in Shopify settings to fully turn it off

So this is not a configuration mistake, it is a system limitation.

  1. Update everything first

Make sure all devices are updated:

Shopify POS app is updated to the latest version
Android tablet software is updated
Restart the device after updating

This ensures you are not dealing with outdated behavior.

  1. Restart and reset POS session

Do this on the device:

Close Shopify POS completely
Log out of the POS app
Restart the tablet
Log back into Shopify POS

This helps clear temporary suggestion or cache issues.

  1. Check if keyboard is causing interference

Since you are using USB keyboards:

Disconnect the keyboard
Test typing directly in POS search

If the issue becomes less or disappears, then the problem is caused by conflict between the physical keyboard and POS autocomplete system.

  1. Change search method for daily use

To avoid the issue in real operations: Use SKU instead of product name search
Use barcode scanning whenever possible
Avoid typing long product names in search

This is the most effective real world workaround.

  1. Clean product naming & It’s Optional

To reduce confusion:

Keep product names short in POS
Avoid unnecessary long descriptions in titles
Make SKUs consistent and easy to type

This reduces reliance on autocomplete.

  1. Report the issue to Shopify It’s important

If the issue continues:Go to Shopify POS app
Open Support section
Select Report a bug

Include:Search suggestions interfering with typing
Samsung Android tablet model
Physical USB keyboard usage
Impact on checkout speed

  1. Final understanding
You cannot disable search suggestions directly
It is controlled by Shopify POS system
The best solution is workflow adjustment + bug reporting

    Thank You !

Wow. A scripted reply that suggests unrealistic “fixes”, obviously won’t address the issue, ignores several key points in my post, and then also basically confirms that we have to just put up with the problems that Shopify purposely introduced to the search function on the POS. “Just re-name all 6000 products on your website”, yeah, okay. Then has the gall to use the old saying “its not a glitch, its a feature”. Just wow. Great work.

I second this, please allow us to turn it off. Most of our products are livestock, we rely almost entirely on search to enter each product (animals don’t have barcodes!).

This “feature” has slowed down our checkout process significantly, repeatedly “correcting” words that are already spelled correctly, there is simply not other way for us to add the item to the cart. We have hundreds of unique items that we can’t simply scan or list through tiles.

I just realized what might be causing the issue.

Earlier I was trying to ring up a “Red Sea Clownfish”, but as soon as I typed "red " it would correct to “Reef”. However, if I type "Red " (note the capital R) then it doesn’t correct it.

My theory is that the search determines that there are no products that match “red” (all lower case) so it decides to correct.
