New "price per unit (grundpreis)" option - almost perfect ;-)

Hi everyone,

First of all, I’m all enthusiastic over the news that there’s a regular “price per unit” option available now for French and German shops. Long awaited, and I can ditch my complicated workaround now. Well, almost:
Following the Help Center guidelines, I added the fields for some product variants and modified the code for Supply theme as suggested - it’s going to work like a charm! But:

  • I don’t see the option for products without variants at all? Only the taxes checkbox. Where is it?
  • square metres should be displayed as m² but show as m2

Any input on that, or is it just me?

Yes, it is the same for me. I did reach out to Shopify support. But they don’t have a solution right now. They forwarded the request to the development team.

I guess this can take a while..

Oh well, let’s hope someone solves the issue then. Would have been so great, but this halfdone solution, to me, is as good as none.

Are there any news on when this feature becomes available for other merchants, not only lucky german/french ones? Because even when limited to products with variants, it still may be useful for some some stores.

Thanks @AppsBySimple , meanwhile the unit price option has been sufficiently implemented by Shopify themselves though, at least for our purposes. Thank you anyway!

I found that the official Shopify feature for unit prices seems to be a bit lacking, and further, it’s surprisingly complicated for a Shopify solution! That might be in part why it’s only available in Germany right now…

I wrote a very simple and easy to use app, UnitWise, and you might find that it helps you with the issues you described. Namely, you can also define unit prices at the product level, and you can enter any string you like for the unit. The best part is, you just drag & drop a block onto your theme and you’re done! All editing is done within the Shopify admin as well.
