New Role-Based User Management Now Available

Am I the only one surprised with this major change ?

I received this email a few hours ago and this morning I found all our roles set legacy with no more option to change anything. I don’t remember I got a warning or saw any message in the change log announcing this radical step. As long we don’t have anything changing in our legacy roles we have till 05/01/2025. No luck I have something to change hence I have to dive in the new system and figure out how to rebuild this. We have 4 shop on our plus plan with 11 roles with all kinda specific access options. From what I read and tested a little, I’m going to have quite some fun and spend a day or 2 to hopefully re create what worked for months ..

  1. would it be possible and maybe a little customer oriented to tell this well in advance and not impose de facto with a simple mail ?

  2. You really think this is the time of the year to do this ?

  3. It would have been nice there was an option to migrate automatically

  4. and allow us to decide when to migrate (with a limit in time) but not de facto block down the whole role in legacy mode.

I understand the frustration, I’ve just done it for one of my clients with more or less the same number of roles. It’s a bit annoying, but it should take less time, it took me 1 hour. If you have an ultrawide-monitor with virtual zones, or a double monitor it is easier: you open the old permissions in one window and you create the new role in another window, and proceed like that for the 11 roles.

Let’s say that is a good chance to review all user permissions, to verify that all users have the right settings (they added more granular permissions over the latest months).
