New Shopify PO / Transfer rejected items Improvement suggestion

According to Sidekick, if I reject products from an order if the transfer accounts for all of the delivery it automatically closes. If I then receive replacements I have to create a new Transfer which is no longer connected to the PO. Transfers with rejected items should remain open or allow a follow-up shipment for replacements, rather than auto-closing.

Hey @jcebarb

There are two ways to avoid losing the PO link. The cleanest is to not reject those items in the first place when you know replacements are coming: instead of rejecting, just receive the good quantity and leave the damaged ones as still outstanding (not received), which keeps the transfer open waiting on the rest, and then you receive the replacements straight into that same open transfer with the PO link intact.

If the transfer has already closed, the other route is to create the replacement transfer from the purchase order itself (open the PO and create a transfer from there) rather than as a standalone one, since rejected items usually stay outstanding on the PO, so a transfer generated from the PO stays connected to it and to the supplier stats.

For the improvement itself, you’re right to raise it, but this board won’t reach the team, so post it on community.shopify.dev where Shopify’s product people actually engage, since the whole new PO and transfer system is still rough around exactly these edges.

Hope that helps! If it did, a Like and Marking it as Solution goes a long way and helps others find the fix faster too.

Best,
Moeed

Hi @Moeed

Thanks for the suggestions. The first one does rather make the reject function redundant and it is useful for various reasons for us.

Regarding the second, I was told categorically by Shopify support that you can only have one transfer linked to the PO. So would that not shift the issue to a different transfer?

Hi there @jcebarb
I agree it does make replacements harder to track shippments of stuff. One work around is to keep the original transfer open by editing quantities before you receive, or make a different replacement transfer with notes clearly stating it is for the original PO. It may also be helpful for frequent processes to use inventory management apps that allow for more flexible tracking of transfers.

Thanks @SealSubs-Roan

This makes sense.

What doesn’t make sense is Shopify devising new processes that actually make things more complicated so we have to think about workarounds or greater expenditure on more Apps!
