I would like to add a newsletter checkbox inside the newly created customer’s account instead of at the checkout. Checkbox would be flagged for the customer to receive emails, if customers don’t wish to receive the emails they simply deselect the checkbox in the account. Is this possible?

One option for accomplishing something like this would be using an app such as Helium Customer Fields which allows you to create custom forms for registering and updating customer accounts. With the app, you can add an email marketing consent checkbox directly to your new customer registration form, and also add an edit account form for existing customers to update their account information, including the email marketing consent value.
