No Filter for Online Products in Search and Discovery APP?

The Search & Discovery “Product Recommendations” list doesn’t have a built-in filter for sales channel (online vs. POS) — the “active” filter there just reflects overall product status, not where it’s published. Why in the world should we need to scan every item entered in our POS just to review the product recommendations for those being published to the online store? It makes no sense… just another instance in which I cannot comprehend how such a strong platform has so many basic weaknesses. does anyone have a work-a-round? The suggestion on Shopify would normally be to do a bulk export and filter on a spreadsheet… but there isn’t one from within the Search and Discovery APP.

@Birdie1 Product tags would be your next best option.

Bulk edit product tags. Filter by “tagged with” in Product Recommendations.

Hey @Birdie1
You are correct this is a limitation in Shopify’s Search & Discovery app.
There is currently no native filter to separate products by sales channel ,Online Store vs POS,inside the Product Recommendations view. The Active filter only reflects overall product status and not channel level publication.

Since Shopify does not provide an export option from within the Search & Discovery app, the most reliable workaround is to manage this outside the app using Shopify’s product data.

Practical Workaround

Export products from Shopify Admin
Go to:
Shopify Admin → Products → Export

Export all products as a CSV file.

Identify channel visibility
In the CSV, identify:
Products published to Online Store
Products used only for POS

If needed use Shopify Admin filters before exporting such as sales channel filters to narrow down the dataset.

Separate products in spreadsheet
Open the CSV in Excel or Google Sheets and:
Filter products intended for Online Store
Remove or isolate POS only products
Use tags for long term control
To avoid repeating this process:
Add tags like online store or pos-only
Bulk tag products inside Shopify Admin

Then you can easily filter products anytime using:

Shopify Admin filters
Spreadsheet filters
Maintain a clean workflow
Going forward:Only products tagged online store should be used in Search & Discovery
POS-only products should be excluded through tagging discipline

Key: There is no direct fix inside the Search & Discovery app itself. The limitation is platform side, so the only reliable solutions are:

CSV-based filtering
Tag-based system

Thank You !

@Birdie1 ,

For native Shopify recommendations, tagging might be a workaround as suggested by Robert there. But if your goal is to control which products appear as recommendations/upsells, an upsell app with bulk visibility rules by products, collections, or tags may be easier.

You could try AS Quantity Break & Upsell App to see if it might work for you. You can add upsell products and control the visibility by tags or collections too.

Thanks for this input - initially seems like a lot of extra admin work for our small team - however there certainly are some great tips here.

Thanks - I’ll look into this - sorry to have to purchase yet another app.

@Birdie1 ,

I can understand it can seem that way, however, I hope you’ll find the pricing fair and a win-win for both sides.

It is completely revenue-based and includes a free tier with all features unlocked until you generate added revenue, which can be hours, days or months - however long you need, in case you are still an early stage business.

Hey @Birdie1 . Hope you are doing well.

Export products via Matrixify, filter by online stores channel in the spreadsheet, then cross-reference manually.

Only workaround until Shopify adds native channel filtering.
