No one at SHOPIFY to help to correct our entity for tax form

Topic summary

A long-time Shopify merchant (since 2016) is unable to correct a critical tax entity classification error on their account. Shopify’s system incorrectly lists them as a sole proprietorship instead of a corporation for 1099-K tax reporting.

The Problem:

  • Received notice to correct TIN for accurate 1099-K reporting
  • Cannot self-correct entity type—system requires contacting support
  • Tax reporting deadlines are passing

Support Failures:

  • Chat support is extremely slow and unhelpful
  • Promised email follow-up never arrived (one week waiting)
  • No phone or email support options available

Current Status:
The issue remains unresolved. The merchant is frustrated by the decline in support quality compared to previous years and is considering leaving Shopify over this inability to fix a simple but essential tax classification.

We can not get any chat support, phone, email just to fix a simple error has on our entity.

Email from: Shopify requested Correct your TIN for accurate 1099-K reporting.

We log in and notice Shopify, has us as a Sole proprietorship. We have never been this type of entity, always been a corporation.

It then says: we can not change the entity type ourselves, we need to contact support. So we do, and the chat takes excessive time for them to finally say, someone will email us to fix our entity. Its been a week, and still no email.

We can’t get this tiny thing fixed and tax reporting should have been sent out by now. We have had our account since 2016, and loved shopify phone support, which is why we chose them to host website. Now you can’t call, email them and the chat is useless. This is frustrating and disappointing and scary that we have to move away from shopify and a simple fix for tax can’t be addressed. Not sure what to do anymore?
