Norway as secondary market

Hi,

We have a multi-market webshop for several countries in Europe. We use Shopify payments as the main payment system. The store’s primary currency is Euro.

No we want to add Norway as a secondary market. There are 2 things to note here:

  • Norway has a different currency: NOK.

  • Norway is not added to Shopify payments.

We can add secondary payment gateway to allow for Norwegian payments. However, this does cause a very big problem. The problem is that Shopify always converts the order to the store’s main currency BEFORE the actual payment.

Customers will then see the purchase amount in Euro instead of NOK when in their payment screen. Which will cause a lot of people to abandon their checkout.

Does anybody have a creative solution for this problem?
Is their maybe a payment gateway available to circumvent this?

Hello @FrankvanBuiten ,

You can use Shopify multi-currency https://www.shopify.com/enterprise/blog/multi-currency

We already use this. (please read the opening post)

The problem is (as I already mentioned in OP) that Norway is NOT added to shopify payments. Which means that ALL payments done from Norwegian cards are blocked by shopify payments.

This forces us to use a secondary gateway as a payment method for this market. But that will show the order amount in euro in the customers payment screen, because Shopify converts the order to the store’s primary currency before sending it to the alternative gateway.

No one has any solution/workaround/idea for this?
