Not as many sales as I’d like. Is it my design?

Topic summary

Store owner reports low conversions despite ad spend and suspects site design/setup is limiting sales (florafaunaplants.com).

  • Brand and social proof: Make the About/Our Story prominent in main navigation; add a clear unique brand statement. Incorporate trust badges (e.g., eco-friendly), social sharing, and keep branding consistent; reviewers also encouraged clearer calls-to-action (CTA = call-to-action).

  • Homepage and navigation: Clarify regional availability (e.g., US-only delivery) to avoid confusion. Surface collections within the first 2–3 scrolls, add a featured product section, show more products on the homepage, resize hero/menu and make the menu sticky, and add category links in the nav.

  • Product pages: Add customer reviews (ideally with images), shipping/return policy visibility, and richer descriptions with bullet points (size, material, care/usage). Include more images (angles, in-scale, feature callouts), a secondary hover image, related products/bundles, and maintain real-time inventory with urgency cues.

  • Trust/support: Display contact info at both top and bottom; consider multiple channels and live chat/FAQ widget for quicker support.

  • Other inputs: One participant shared a detailed content audit via external links. Another noted difficulty finding Houseplants products, suggesting product visibility/stock presentation issues.

  • Status: No resolution yet; actionable improvements proposed, awaiting store updates/feedback.

While our website does get a few orders here and there, it’s definitely not as many as I’d like. I feel that it’s my online store and maybe how it’s setup that could be the problem? I don’t know what to do, and I don’t want to keep wasting money on ad spend driving traffic to the site and not seeing any sales. The website is florafaunaplants.com

Hi! Thanks for uploading your store, I really enjoyed looking through your store and identifying areas for improvement. I’ve created a report with some of the important store elements I’ve seen help merchants become successful. I’ve recorded an audit of whether or not you have these elements and provided a recommendation for the sections where I saw an opportunity to improve in order to drive sales to your store. Take a look at some of the feedback and let me know what you think!

Unique Selling Points and Social Proof

Store Element Current State Recommendation
About / Our Story Page “About Flora + Fauna” exists but might not be prominent. The “About Us” section is present in the footer, but it could be made more prominent. Consider creating a dedicated link in the main navigation menu labeled “Our Story” to ensure visitors can easily find and learn about the brand.
Unique Brand Statement Not clearly visible on the provided screenshots. Add a dedicated section on the homepage that highlights unique aspects such as, “Flora & Fauna was founded in Seattle by a group of eco-enthusiasts. Our products are locally made, eco-friendly, and crafted with the highest quality materials ensuring sustainability and responsible production.”
Social Proof Badges Not clearly visible Incorporate social proof badges such as “Organic,” “Eco-Friendly,” or “Handmade” prominently on the product pages and homepage to build credibility and trust.
Social Media Links and Sharing Options Links are present in the footer. Include social media sharing options on product pages to encourage users to share their favorite items. Adding social media feed previews can also be beneficial.

Store Element Current State Recommendation
Unique Backgrounds The image backgrounds are somewhat generic. Use bespoke backgrounds that reflect the brand identity, such as rustic or eco-friendly settings, relevant to the store’s sustainable and eco-friendly theme. Hi,
I am piloting a tool to do detailed Website Content Audits for landing Pages (https://www.saleso.ai/product/website-content-feedback-tool ). As a part of that, generated a detailed report for your page here - https://drive.google.com/file/d/17RwYqPlcFW28CyajNjT4-Z03lI6dWKec/view?usp=sharing. If that is cumbersome, you can also find a summary here - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ni9bkIK9NaNOH-d1O6qEoJfpKGDrDx7b/view?usp=sharing. Hope this is useful to you. If possible, do give me feedback on it.

Hi @ffplantshome ,

This is Kate from PageFly, the Shopify Landing Page Builder app. I think you’re doing great with the website. However, as a website builder and CRO expert, I’d like to share a few suggestions for further optimizing your store.

HOMEPAGE

1. Notice the regional display differences. I assume you only deliver houseplants within the US. However, if the customers/traffic to your store come from other countries, this may be initially confusing.

2. The collection section should be placed in somewhat the first 2-3 scroll.

3. Create a featured product section to highlight your leading product.

4. Show more of your product in the home page. For example, you can separate each collection into a dedicated section. Example:

Best-selling products:

Or a dedicated product list:

PRODUCT PAGE

1. Add a customer review section.

2. Add shipping or return policies here:

To build trust with your customers.

I hope these tips will help enhance your store and boost conversion rates. Wishing you the best in your endeavors.

Keep up the great work!

Cheers,

Kate | PageFly team

Hello @ffplantshome ,

This is HAPO Apps. I recently visited your online store and noticed a few areas that need improvement and additional features. Here are my suggestions:

Menu and Hero Banner: I think these sections should be resized to be smaller to avoid covering up important information. Additionally, the menu should be sticky to make it easier for customers to navigate your store.

Product List: I currently don’t see your Houseplants products, so it’s difficult to evaluate your product pricing or images. You should add products to make your store look more credible.

Customer Reviews: This is a very important section on the homepage, as it helps customers make purchasing decisions more easily. Therefore, you should not only include text and rating stars but also add images for better reference.

Product Pages: You should add more information to the product details section to help customers understand your products better. For example: material, size chart, care instructions, shipping, and return policy. This information will make your store look much more professional.

These are all my suggestions, and I hope they will be helpful to you.

Hi @LFfplantshome,

Thanks for reaching out to the community. This is MooseDesk - All-in-one Customer Support and Helpdesk Solution for your Start-up

Congratulations on your new store! I can see it is well-designed and has quite enough essential details. While it’s already great, I do have some suggestions to help make it even better. Here are a few of my recommendations for increasing sales, if you don’t mind taking a look.

1. Product page

  • Add a secondary hover image: Displaying a secondary image can provide additional visual details of the product, thus encouraging shoppers to click on it more. Take a look at the example below:

- Add more product images and description: To boost your sales, I believe you should provide shoppers with more product images and information, so that they are more persuaded to make decisions

3 types of product images that should always be included for most products:

  • Images that show products “In Scale”
  • Images that highlight a product’s features: Feature Callout images (highlight specific components/characteristics of a product that users will find valuable; use cases)
  • 3-5 Images that show products from at least a few different angles

Take a look at this example:

2. Add product categorization to the navigation bar

If you have categories readily available in the navigation bar, your visitors can find what they’re interested in much faster, which leads to a more satisfying experience on your site.

3. Add Customer Support section

Don’t overlook the importance of customer support in scaling your revenue. Being available whenever customers need you the most can help build trust and increase conversion. I suggest exploring MooseDesk, a free support, FAQ & Helpdesk App. MooseDesk provides auto-reply features during non-business hours, a proactive help center, and a user-friendly widget layout, offering an effective solution to enhance customer support on your platform.

  • You can add a widget that contains FAQ like this with MooseDesk:

So those are some of my suggestions for your store as an UX expert. If this is helpful for you, please let me know by giving me a ‘LIKE’. If your question is answered please mark this as 'SOLUTION’.

As an expert/enthusiast in UX, I recommend implementing these changes to improve customer experience when scrolling through your store.
