Not sure if I added my sitemap on Google Search Console correctly

Topic summary

A user is troubleshooting their Google Search Console sitemap submission, which initially showed their domain appearing twice in the URL path.

Issue Identified:

  • The sitemap was added incorrectly with a duplicated domain structure
  • Screenshots confirmed the error in the submission format

Solution Provided:

  • Remove the incorrect sitemap entry
  • Resubmit using only “sitemap.xml” (without the full domain URL)
  • Click the Submit button in Google Search Console

Current Status:

  • User corrected the submission over a week ago
  • Sitemap shows as “added successfully” but hasn’t been picked up by GSC yet
  • Possible explanations include lack of site visitors or normal indexing delays

The discussion remains open regarding why the corrected sitemap hasn’t been processed by Google Search Console despite successful submission.

Hi All,

If anyone has a few mins, can you tell me if this looks right? Is it supposed to reflect your domain twice like this?

Thanks

Hi @Rosabee

You added an incorrect value. It must look like that on sitemape on search google console only

Hi Dan

So clarifying that this is incorrect?

If so, would it be ok to remove everything and redo the process?

Yes, remove it. When applying site map in your console google, please just add sitemap.xml only and click Submit button.

Hi Dan

I submitted it correctly more than a week ago - but it doesn’t appear to be picked up by GSC at all now? It is added successfully, so can it just be that I’ve had no visitors?

Thanks
