Notify me based on Metafields

Hi all,

My site is currently build and I’m searching for a back in stock / notify me solution where the customers is informed based on metafield(s) of the products which was not available.

Let me explain. I run a business where items are not standard production items. Most items are used and only 1 available. So a second one is not possible.

See it like for example a Rolex watch. You have 1 of a model with a serial number.

When the item is sold it won’t come back as that specific item with that serial number only is produced 1x.

When another one would come in stock a new product is created.

Now comes the metafield. As there is only 1 product we cannot use the I would say standard solution for back in stock as that product won’t come back. However a product has for example a production code (not serial number but production code), That can come back.

So when a customer sees an item which is out of stock but wants a notification and that is based on a specific production code for example then the customer can be notified.

Is there any kind of solution for this?

Thanks!

Hi @MMS1972 See mechanic to build transactional email automations like this https://tasks.mechanic.dev/?tags=Customers%2CEmail

Shopify-flow can be used if it’s only to email staff, otherwise it needs shopify-email marketing to email customers.

Otherwise see just about every pre-order/back-in-stock app that can work with tags and just automate updating the tag when the metafield changes.

@MMS1972 :waving_hand:t3: We run a back in stock alerts app full time, so I can share some context here. Most back in stock apps, if not all, notify customers based on the product requested & restocked. I doubt you’ll find any that can notify customers based on metafields or tags. It’s not that it’s not possible; just that it’s a unique use case where the same product never comes back but similar ones do.

You might be better off using an automation app like @PaulNewton mentioned. The use case requires some flexibility and using a system designed for it is the best way forward. :slightly_smiling_face:

@Sandy-STOQ I understand what you mean considering it is a shop selling new stuff. Assume you sell shoes and the shoes are new the shoes are out of stock and you probably will use the same product to list it again.

But with a shop selling used equipment it is different. None of the items are 100% the same. They have different serial numbers, condition is not the same etc. etc. Basically only the production code is the same.

So when someone sees an item with production code X which is set as a Metafield that type of product can easily come back in stock and then it would be great if the customer would be allerted.

Any suggestions for this? An app would be great. If not another kind of solution would be helpful as well.

Thanks!
