NSW Back to School Voucher - API integration to Shopify

Hi there,

NSW State Government is offering Back-to-School Vouchers to help families to reduce school expenses.

To accept vouchers for Shopify online purchases and/or Shopify POS system, we are looking at integrating the NSWService for Business app into Shopify.

We’ve been advised that it is possible via an API and are seeking guidance on how we can achieve this.

I’ve just got off the phone with Service NSW. I have the API information (they email it to you). First, you’ll need to do a bunch of ID validations on the phone including your APN and bank info. Then after reviewing the docs you’ll need to confirm that you’ll be proceeding with an API integration.

If I get the API configured I’ll write back here with any insights.

I’ve ended up not going with the API solution. Too much work for the return for me. I’ve seen other retailers ask customers to email vouchers in which seems a bit old-school.

I have a pre-order shop. You buy online and there are weekly deliveries. This allows me time to take a Back to School (BTS) voucher, redeem and give the customer a standard cart discount code that can be used at checkout.

With this logic, I created a form (via Jotform - they are great) which takes the BTS voucher(s) and based on how many are entered gives them a $50, $100 or a $150 discount code. When an order comes in I match this with the email address of the customer and process the code in the NSW Business App.

It is a bit of manual work and some customers do make a mistake in entering their BTS code which requires an email back and forth but it works and customers are very happy.

I have no fraud risk so the above work for me.

Hi Peter,

I’ve just been approved to accept the vouchers and now need to navigate this next step - school uniform shop with prepaid orders and weekly delivery/collection form school office.

The way you’re doing it… how do you ensure that the customers use your Shopify discount code only 3 times each?
