Rio here from the Shopify Community team. I’d love to help you set something like this up. Shopify doesn’t have a feature that allows you to apply an automatic discount to customers with tags. But you can use the Automatic Discounts app to apply discounts for a customer tag.
However, are you looking to offer this discount on a continuous basis, or just when a customer lands on your website and initially registers?
If you can provide some more context I’m happy to find a solution that works for your business.

I will continue to offer free shipping to anyone who registers at my shop. I know with a discount code added to the welcome email this can be done. But to do this, customers have to put this code every time they buy which is not good.
Can this be done automatically? Without using app, how can I implement this?

Unfortunately, free shipping discounts do not apply automatically unless it’s based on the order value.
If you are looking to reward loyal customers, I would suggest using a loyalty app. This can help you offer this discount, but also incentive users to support you further and build a more loyal customer base. Check out some of the options below:
