Hi
Looking for some help with this problem about how shopify structures shipping rates based on locations.
We stock our inventory at two locations. BUT we want to offer our customers a single shipping rate based on the weight or value of their order, even if items are stocked at different locations.
This is not currently possible in shopify as shopify will add shipping profiles for locations so we have to pretend all our stock is at one location when it isn’t and keep records manually which is a complete pain.
Has anyone found an app or workaround for this problem? Most large UK retailers will offer a single shipping rate for orders as it isn’t the customer’s problem where items are stocked. We are happy to cover extra costs ourselves if we end up having to fulfil orders from multiple locations so that our customers have a clear and transparent pricing for shipping.
I can see a number of possible ways to get around this if we tracked stock based on actual location, just wondered if anyone had tried any of these:
-
Set identical shipping profiles for each location but create a shipping discount so that if orders are being fulfilled from multiple locations, the discount is applied so that in effect the customer pays the same rate as if shipped from a single location.
-
Set our inventory to be at one shopify location with one shipping profile but somehow track how much of the inventory is at place A and how much at place B so we can track both inventories separately - would there be an app that could do this? It would need to be at an inventory level not product level as we might have products that are stocked at both A and B. Though having it at a product level would be a start, maybe we could do this through tags?
There might be other ways to get around this, interested to hear what solutions you have found.
Thanks, Alice
