I am new to Shopify. I have my store set up and ready to open except for my cart.
I am selling just one product in my Shopify store. Here’s how I need my shopping cart to work:
Minimum order: 2 pieces
Maximum order: 20 pieces
Order up to 4 pieces: $X/each
Order of 5 to 20 pieces: $Y/each
All orders: free shipping
Shipping: United States only
Taxes: customers in-state will have to pay taxes
I thought I’d be able to set the shopping cart up to do all of this out of the box. Learning - that’s not the case.
Is this something that I’ll have to buy a bunch of apps to do? Or will these requirements require a custom programmer to implement? I imagine what I want to do here isn’t that unusual. How have other store owners accomplished this?
Welcome to the Shopify Community! Those are some great questions. Let’s start with what can be done without the use of an app.
To provide Free Shipping and limit purchasing to U.S. residents, you’ll want to create a shipping zone only for the United States. In that zone, you will create a flat rate that is $0 and label it Free Shipping. We have an awesome guide you can follow: How to Setup Free Shipping. This means all customers who attempt to check out from outside of the U.S. will see an error that shipping is not available to their location.
When it comes to taxes, each state has its own sales tax requirements. As I don’t know your specific state, I recommend checking out our guide on setting up U.S. taxes.
In regards to quantity limitations and pricing, you will need to use an app such as:
Quantity Breaks - Bulk Prices - this app lets you create minimum and maximum purchases per order, as well as tiered pricing for units sold.
