There’s been a noticeable uptick in developers commenting on years-old threads just to promote their apps—often using the same message across multiple posts. This seems clearly against the rules, but it’s happening more and more.
-
Most email notifications I get now are just thinly veiled ads.
-
These threads haven’t been active in years—there’s no intent to actually help.
-
I’ve personally reported several of these comments, but they weren’t removed.
Here’s what the Community Guidelines say:
Avoid posting in older topics:
- Consider making a new topic and referencing the older topic within.
- If you are providing a possible solution, you must tailor your reply to explain why the suggestion is a solution to the question asked. Posts that reactivate older topics in order to provide a solution are subject to removal.
I do promote my app here, but I work hard to contribute in other areas too—over 500 comments, 41 accepted solutions, and 150 likes—because I believe this should be a real community, not just an ad board. But it’s discouraging to see rule-breaking behavior get rewarded with free exposure, while people trying to participate in good faith are left at a disadvantage.
Can we please get some clarification or enforcement around this?
Thanks,
Tobe
