Order confirmation and other notifications

Hello! In the store details, my legal company name which is LLC is different from my store name. I sell just in the US. In this case, do I need to include my legal name as well on the order confirmation and on other notifications? If I have to include it, then what is the way?

Hi @Tom342 .

Because this query involves legal matters, you’ll need to reach out to your local legal or tax professional so that they can provide you with advice that is relevant to your situation and business.

For more information however, the ‘Store name’ section under Settings > Store details within your Shopify admin is the name that is displayed on every page of your website. The ‘Legal name of company’ section is your business’ legal name and will appear on your Shopify invoice, as mentioned in our help guide here. Businesses may also, at times, go by a DBA (Doing Business As) name that is customer-facing, and this will be different from the legal name of the business. However, you should still speak with a legal or tax professional regarding which name you should be using, as well as your obligations.

I’ll leave a few resources below for more information on this matter:

  • LLC names: If you scroll down a little bit, there’s a section on the blog that talks about LLC and DBA that you might be interested in reading more of.
  • A guide to DBA: A great introductory blog to all things DBA.

Thank you for answering it, Kimi. Can you tell me also that how to add my legal name and address to the order confirnation and other notfications? I would like to add it to the footer. Can you tell me how, because I know where to go if I would like to customize the notfications, but I didn’t find the option there to add the legal name and the address.

Notification emails are rendered using Shopify’s programming language called Liquid, so if you’re wanting to edit its contents you’ll need to be equipped with coding knowledge. You can, however, also reach out to our internal team as we have dedicated specialists equipped with coding knowledge that should be able to help edit your notifications. There are certain limitations to what can be edited on these notification templates though, but our team will be able to confirm whether or not they’ll be able to help complete your request.

So from here, you can reach out to our live support team so that they’re able to contact our internal specialists on your behalf. To get in touch with our team, you’ll need to login to your store via our help centre here. Once logged in, select a topic that best fits your query or situation. From there, you’ll be taken to a page with the heading ‘Contact support’, and you can scroll to the bottom of that page to select your preferred contact method with our team. Our team will then be able to look into your request further from our end.

In the meantime, I’ll leave some help documents below for your reference, in case you’d like more information on editing notification templates:
