Order Displays "Expected Delivery Date" Despite options being toggled off.

Hello,

I have an order that was just placed and shows an “Expected Delivery Date” that is 3 days from the day the order was placed. This is close to accurate but due to the made-to-order nature of the products we sell I would not like for this to show up. Previous orders did not say this.

I have the delivery date features off such as Shop Promise, Manual Delivery Dates is toggled off. I do not use carrier-calculated rates and use custom flat shipping rates.

I did recently connect the FedEx app, but have had orders come in after installing the app that do not show expected delivery like this product.

I am at a loss as to what setting somewhere has automatically added this order an “expected delivery date”.

I would greatly appreciate any assistance if this is some obscure toggled feature somewhere.

I have used the Shopify AI assistant to navigate as best I can to all my settings and do not seem to find an answer for this. All my shipping settings are done in the General Shipping Profile. I do not have additional profiles.

Hi,

This sounds like a confusing situation, especially since you’ve already turned off the common features that usually control expected delivery messaging.

Based on what you’ve described, here are a few things you might want to check:

1. Check your product settings for delivery customization
Sometimes, expected delivery messages are tied to individual product settings or overrides. Even if global settings are off, a product might still have delivery info attached if it was part of an experiment or test before. Go to the product page in the admin and scroll through to see if there’s any shipping or fulfillment section with a date range.

2. FedEx app connection may have triggered this
Even though your FedEx app is not being used for rate calculation, some apps (including carrier integrations) can inject delivery estimates into order details or customer-facing notifications. This can happen even if the shipping rate shown was a flat rate. It’s worth opening the FedEx app settings or checking whether it has permissions to edit delivery promises or tracking visibility.

3. Double-check the “Shop Promise” toggle under Shopify > Settings > Shipping and delivery > Delivery customization
Even if it says it’s off, Shopify has occasionally tested features in limited cases. You can try toggling it on, saving, and then turning it off again. This sometimes resets the expected delivery display logic.

4. Confirm whether the delivery date shows on customer emails or just inside the order view
If it’s only visible on the admin side, it might not affect the customer. But if it shows in confirmation emails or on the order status page, then it’s most likely tied to an integration or app that pushed the data through after checkout.

5. Check the Timeline inside the order
Inside the order page, scroll to the Timeline section to see if any app or automation has posted the delivery estimate there. It might show the source of where the estimate was added from.

This sounds like a one-off triggered by a mix of settings or app behavior. If it happens again with new orders, try keeping a record of which shipping method was selected, which app was active, and whether the product had any delivery info pre-set.

Hope this helps you narrow it down.

Hi,

Thank you for your response. I will be replying to each point as best I can.

  1. I am attaching images of the settings for delivery customization. I have checked the product page and do not see any information with a date range. However the customer’s order confirmation ALSO includes the Estimated Delivery Date at the bottom. I will be editing the email template to remove that information.
  2. I have checked the Fedex app. A screenshot is attached of the Fedex App settings. I honestly believe this is the most likely cause, however, if it is the Fedex App, why is it that only one product has been given an estimated delivery date while other orders have come through and do not add an estimated delivery date? I have connected our FedEx account and have checked in that account and there is no setting to edit or disable estimated delivery dates.
  3. On my settings for Shopify > Settings > Shipping and delivery > Delivery customization there is nothing under Delivery customization. I have never activated Shop Promise. We do have the ability to activate it since the website has been eligible for a long time.
  4. The delivery date does show in the order confirmation. Unfortunately.
  5. I have checked the timeline inside the order. Nothing in the timeline shows or suggests any information regarding delivery date has been noted within the timeline.

I will keep note of all this in case it does happen again.

This definitely sounds like it’s coming from the FedEx app, especially since the timing lines up. Even if other recent orders didn’t show a date, it’s possible the app just started applying estimated delivery logic on certain products or conditions (like item weight, ZIP codes, etc). I’d go into the FedEx app settings and look for anything about delivery estimates or label creation. Also check if it’s overriding shipping methods with its own service-level info. If nothing stands out there, you might want to temporarily disable the app and see if the message stops appearing.

This just started yesterday with me as well. I don’t have Shop promise on or any settings which should allow this and it’s also triggering on items that don’t currently have inventory but allow overselling.

It’s really odd that it only appears on some orders and I can’t duplicate it on my end. It’s really irritating because we already display an accurate shipping estimate in cart, and this estimate that’s potentially being shown to customers is different and wildly inaccurate.

It also started just after I switched from “Standard” shipping to Custom shipping. I have a FedEx account connected which I don’t use, so I’ll try disabling that in case it’s coming from FedEx, which I doubt. I think this may be a Shopify bug.

If you also have your FedEx account connected - and it has happened to me after recently connecting our FedEx account, it definitely leads me to believe more firmly that it is Fedex inserting shipping estimates on its own since the app does have permission to do that despite settings being toggled off.

On the FedEx E-Commerce settings I unchecked settings for notifications so I am hoping perhaps those settings have something to do with it.

If it happens again then I will disable the application.

Hi AndyFPS,

This has started to occur with our online orders coming through - oddly enough it isnt on every order. Mostly its all orders being shipped within the same state & a few that are in neighboring states.

We utilize ShipStation, and a few weeks ago we implemented its smart learning to begin understanding the items we sell and to automatically trigger similar shipping options when the item is the same. I wonder if the smart learning is adapting to when others in similar zip codes received their order.

We tried going through settings and havent seen anything that may be triggering this and ShipStation is the only thing I can think of.

Following up. Removing the FedEx connection did not change it.

We do use ShipStation as well, but I don’t think that’s the cause. My shipping options are just custom flat-rate options that don’t consider distance.

I still cannot replicate the issue on my end, and I can’t identify a pattern. Orders from the same area and same items may show the expected delivery date while others don’t.

I followed up with our representative from ShipStation and they confirmed it isn’t anything coming from their end. Has to be something Shopify is implementing. We even tried a test order with an address that has generated an expected delivery date in other orders, and didnt replicate the issue either.

Hopefully we get some type of insight soon, We’d hate for customers to be expecting things on a certain date and we cannot match that date.

We are having the same problem since 2 days ago.

We are also having this issue. Have not installed any apps recently. This appears to only happen on Shop Pay orders. Been working with Shopify support for a week and so far nothing… We ship perishable seafood which most people schedule to arrive on a specific date so needless to say this issue has been very disruptive to our business.

Hi there @AndyFPS ,

From what you’ve described (no Shop Promise, manual delivery dates off, custom flat rates, no CCS), there’s a good chance this “Expected Delivery Date” is being pulled from either:

  • A Shopify default logic trigger, possibly linked to your FedEx app if the app is passing back delivery estimate metadata for certain products/orders. Even if you’re not using CCS, some carrier apps can pass ETA tags to Shopify.

  • An app or extension (like a marketplace integration or third-party delivery display) that quietly injects that data depending on product or tag logic.

You mentioned some orders still don’t show the estimate, so it might be product-based — check if this particular product has a tag, metafield, or shipping condition that’s different from the others.

If you’re not finding anything in the Shopify settings or the FedEx app, one workaround you could try is using a post-purchase tracking app like ParcelPanel Order Tracking. It gives you full control over what delivery info shows, when it shows, and how it’s calculated. For made-to-order products, you can:

  • Turn off estimated delivery at checkout

  • Display accurate timelines on the tracking page instead

  • Customize delivery logic based on product or tag

  • Let customers track progress only when it’s ready, no early ETA surprises

If this sounds like something that could help in your case, feel free to reach out, we’d be happy to walk you through how it works. And if you’re interested, we’d love to offer you a 30-day free trial as well. Just let us know.

Hope this helps clarify things a bit!
