Order Selection Behavior Changed in Summer 2025 Update – Checkbox Selection Not Merged Across Tabs

Topic summary

Shopify’s Summer 2025 update changed order selection behavior, initially making checkbox selections tab-specific rather than merged across multiple tabs. This affected workflows where users needed to select orders across different filtered views (e.g., by shipping method) for bulk actions like printing.

Initial Issue:

  • Order selections became isolated per tab/filter view
  • Previously, users could select orders across multiple tabs and combine them for bulk operations
  • Shopify confirmed this was intentional for performance and consistency

Workarounds Discussed:

  • Perform all selections within a single tab
  • Use Shopify Admin API for advanced order management
  • Print separate PDFs per filter and merge them manually using tools like Acrobat

Resolution:
The original poster reported that Shopify released a feature update restoring the previous multi-selection functionality, allowing their workflow to resume.

Related Issue:
Another user raised a separate concern about clicking outside the checkbox now navigating to the order detail page and clearing all selections, which remains unresolved and impacts workflow efficiency.

Hello,

After updating to the Shopify Summer 2025 version, I noticed that when I select orders using checkboxes in one tab, and then select more orders in another tab, the selections are no longer merged as they used to be in previous versions. Previously, I could select orders across multiple tabs, and all selected orders would be combined for bulk actions like printing. Now, the selections are isolated to each tab.

Is this an intentional change or a regression?

Could you please explain the reason for this change and if there is any workaround to restore the previous behavior?

Thank you very much for your support!

Shopify’s Summer 2025 release made updates to the order selection across browser tabs. This update changed the behavior so that now selections are tab-specific. This is for performance and consistency, especially to try to reduce conflicts during bulk actions. As I said, this may feel like a regression, but it was an intentional change. Currently, there’s no way to revert to the old behavior. If you want to manage all of your selections for bulk actions, we recommend that you use a single tab for all your selections.

Hi @En-light ,

This change appears to be intentional with the Shopify Summer 2025 update. Previously, order selections made across multiple browser tabs were combined, allowing for bulk actions like printing to be performed on all selected orders. However, with the latest update, selections are now isolated to each individual tab. This was likely done to improve performance, prevent synchronization issues between tabs, and enhance data integrity during bulk operations. Unfortunately, there is no built-in way to revert to the old behavior. As a workaround, it is recommended to perform all selections and bulk actions within a single tab, or use the Shopify Admin API for more advanced order management.

Thanks!

Can you explain what you mean by “Tabs”? The issue is that if you search (magnifying glass search bar) for one order in the filter above your orders page, click the checkbox, then you search for another the one before gets unselected. Basically, if the previous order is not in the string of whatever you’re searching for it will be unselected. There is no “tabs” being used here in this context.

This is a huge regression if you use the Shopify webpage itself. It’s forcing people to do orders 1 by 1 unless they happen to be on the same page as the initial or you scroll through the pages to find them, or ensure filters are always on for the page so your shippers don’t have to navigate through many pages of outstanding or fulfilled orders.

It’s really hard to understand what the search function is for now if it’s going to de-select orders that you check mark - it defeats the purpose of being able to search and checkmark orders…even if it was just two.

Thank you!
It’s challenging since this is a specification change.

What we’re trying to accomplish is printing order details from the order management screen using the print button to generate PDFs and place them in a specific directory.

Due to requests from our logistics team, we sort today’s shipment orders by shipping method.

We want to sort by two criteria:

  • Order date
  • Shipping method

Since it’s difficult to sort by two items on this screen, we previously used the following workflow: first, we would check the checkboxes for orders in “Shipping Method 1” segment, then check the checkboxes for orders in “Shipping Method 2” segment. This approach satisfied our requirements.

If Shopify had never been able to do this from the beginning, we wouldn’t have thought anything of it. However, since the previous interface allowed this functionality, we raised this concern as a potential regression.

We need to achieve the above workflow. Do you have any suggestions for a good approach? Or should we consider developing a custom app using the Shopify Admin API or similar methods?

By the way, our current workaround is: we print and output PDF from Shipping Method 1 in Tab 1, then print and output PDF from Shipping Method 2 in Tab 2, and finally merge these two PDFs using Acrobat.

It’s not a very complex process, but it is cumbersome.

Great news! There was a feature update and the above functionality has been added! We can now operate with our previous workflow. Thank you to the development team and support team!

what about when clicking outside of the selection box it used to still mark the order as selected (only if there is previous orders selected already) now if you click outside of the click box to select the order it takes u to the order itself and deleting all of the checked order data and makes u reselect all the orders again from the beginning, this is a major workflow issue, any help ?
