Orders fulfillment

hello,

we have a Wearhouse but we also do fulfill orders by buying things from third party. how can I write on the packing slip or how can I get a report of the order of where the items were sourced from (our own Wearhouse or bought from 3rd party?)

Hey @mike51

Shopify doesn’t track “where this specific unit came from” natively, it only tracks inventory by location. So if you fulfill from your own warehouse vs buying from a third party, Shopify has no built in way to flag that on a per order basis unless you set it up yourself.

Cleanest way: create a second location in Shopify (Settings > Locations) called something like “Third Party Sourced”. When you fulfill an order from a third party, switch the fulfillment location to that one before marking it shipped. Now every order is tagged by source location, and you can filter orders by location in the admin or export reports filtered by fulfillment location to see exactly which orders came from where.

Perfect thank you! so this can be selected per item while picking them? can you also add notes under each item while picking? ( I am also currently trying out the easy scan app and might try skuusavvy).

Is it possible to extract an excel sheet or so of a summary of the order with all this information?

Yes, fulfillment location is per line item, not per order. When you open an order, click “Fulfill items”, and you can split items across locations, some from your warehouse, some from “Third Party Sourced”. Each item gets its own source tag that way.

For notes per item, Shopify has order notes (whole order) and line item properties (per item, but those are set at checkout by the customer, not editable later by you). The realistic workaround is using order tags or a custom metafield per line item if you want it tracked properly.

For the Excel export, yes. Orders > Export > Plain CSV gives you everything including fulfillment location, line items, quantities, and any line item properties. The Lineitem fulfillment location column is what you’d filter on.

is it also possible to create a PO from what there isn’t in stock to send to a supplier?

Thank you!

Hello ONc3e again, Thank you for these great answers. I have another one for you, is it possible to get the inventory on the picking slip ore when the order comes in so he can see right away what he has and what’s missing? thank you!
