I have a candle business and want to organize my store by scent and allow the customer to click into the specific scent and then select whether they want a candle or wax melts. I have 5 scents total at the moment. How do I do this?
Topic summary
Goal: Organize a Shopify store by scent so shoppers click a scent, then choose candle or wax melts.
Proposed approach: Use Shopify Collections, one per scent, and populate them automatically via product tags.
Key steps:
- Admin > Products > Collections > Create collection.
- Name each collection after a scent; add an optional description and featured image.
- Choose Automated collection; set conditions to “Product must match: Any.” Add condition: “Product tag is equal to [Scent Name].”
- Tag all relevant products (candles and wax melts) with the appropriate scent tag so they auto-populate.
- Repeat for all scents (e.g., 5 total).
- On the storefront, add a “Collection list” section and select the scent collections to display; adjust layout settings.
Notes:
- Manual collection is possible but automated is recommended for easier upkeep when adding new products.
- Screenshots (images) are provided to illustrate the Shopify UI for each step.
Status: A clear implementation path is provided; no confirmation from the original poster yet, so resolution is unconfirmed.
Hi @LITL ,
To organize candles and wax melts based on scents, you can use “collections” in Shopify. You can create various collections in the product section and organize products based on the scents in it. You can follow the below mentioned steps to setup a collection in Shopify:
- Go to Admin panel, Choose “Products” menu and Choose “Collections” from the submenu.
- Click on the “create collection” button on the top right corner
- In the collection creation page, set a title for the collection based on your scents and description if you require any.
-
You have two options to add products to a collection. Manual or Automatic. You can choose Automatic if you want to add candles and wax malts to the collection automatically when you add a new product.
-
Choose Automated and there will a new field appearing to add conditions. In the Conditions, set “product must match” option as “any”. And set “product tag” is equal to “your scent name”
NB: You need to add tags for your products based on your scent names, so they will be added to the collection automatically. Also, you can use your preffere3d conditions instead of “product tag”.
- You can add a collection image if you needed an featured image for the collection on the image field on the right sidebar.
-
Now save and create similar collections for all scents.
-
To display on the store front, you need to add a section called “Collection List” and choose the collection you needed to display and set the section settings as per your desired format.
I hope this helps! If it does, please like it and mark it as a solution!
