Orphaned Pages in sitemaps - Semrush website SEO Audit

Hello!

I have been running a SEO check up with SEMRUSH and among the notices my website was flagged as having 4 orphaned pages in the sitemap.

2 of these pages listed in the sitemaps are:

  1. a blog post - published and then deleted and
  2. another informative page that has been replaced.

Only with the direct link these pages can be accessed, otherwise there is no trace of them in the entire website.

Since these are crawlable pages but not showcased in the website, how can I remove them from the sitemap for good?

Any help/suggestion is highly appreciated!

Thank you!

To remove them from the sitemap, you need to create the sitemap manually.

Because sitemaps are generated automatically and include all the pages available on the website.

If there is an option of modifying the existing sitemap, you can remove the URLs from the list and upload the latest sitemap!

@soleseriouss is incorrect. You can remove content from the sitemap using a metafield. See the total pages indexed section in the SEO guide for how to do it. The values you need to set are:

"namespace" : "seo"
"key" : "hidden"
"value" : 1
"value_type" : "integer"
